Thumbs up Just joined the Thor Forum

Name is Jerry. Glad to see a forum that revolves around the Thor Motor home. Just purchased my Four Winds 26B last May brand new. Love the RV. Put over7,000 miles on it already. Live in Michigan and traveled all the way to Vancouver BC. It was the best trip I took in a RV.

You’ll like it here, I’m sure. I eventually traded my Thor in on Some Other Brand (making me an SOB in the lingo of the group - Although maybe I was that anyway...) but I still frequent this group and find that it’s a fine, generous bunch of guys and gals. Good info and fun.

Hello there...I'm also a new RV'er and planning on a trip to Alaska next Spring...my coach averages only 8 mpg. with the Ford F-10 engine...I'm somewhat disappointed with this mileage...everyone I had talked to before purchasing the Thor said they got 10 or 12 mpg...well, I should have joined this forum before purchasing mine...I was unaware that I will have to spend several thousand dollars just to make the trip from WV to Maine to Alaska...dadgone...U know of any gas mileage tips...! anyway, glad to hear your first trip was a good memory...

About the only thing you can do is to slow down some - and that carries its own price. If it’s any comfort to you, on my 6,500 mile trip this past summer through the northwest I only averaged 6.8 mpg! My coach is a bit larger but not much

When we purchased our Thor A.C.E. 29.2 almost 6 years and 50K miles ago, we were told to expect between 6-9 mpg, about what we see; speed 65mph tops. I don’t recall ever seeing 10mpg but the best mileage, 9.5, was on the flatland highways along the Texas coast.

In Florence, SC there is a company, 5 Star Tuning, super nice people. 5 Star can do a reflash on your ECU for better mileage or more power, and it works! I did a reflash on our 29M and the difference was amazing. Don’t have their number handy but look it up and give them a call. I would absolutely recommend them, they can customize your reflash for the engine and transmission both.

The engine needs a break in period and you should see better mileage as you use it more.
My Compass 23 TB was not good for the first 10,000 km`s but got steadily better and now get 17 mpg on average but did get 19 driving across the Canadian prairies with a tail wind.
Our trip to Alaska racked up 21,000 km`s this year

Welcome to the forum. Our ws31 has gotten a best of 8.68. Maybe, it'll get better as we get more miles on it. Still under 10K. It does help if you keep speeds between 50- 60mph rather than 65-70.

Have owned '22 Thor 29M since October of '21 then the price of gas went up and I have found it hard to take it very far. Thinking of trading in for a class B. Better gas mileage and no toad needed. But hate the thought of losing all the great amenities and features of the Windsport.

Be certain! You can buy a lot of gasoline for the price of a van! That said, we recently downsized from a 31 ft Newmar to a class B. We didn’t do it for the mileage although going from 7 to 16 mpg is a nice little bonus. We were surprised how much the class A traded for. Obviously would have brought even more if we sold it directly. It IS a significant adjustment but I was pleased to see that most of the stuff we were lugging around isn’t really needed. We are pretty happy with the change.
