No to the special paper. There is a test were you put a couple of sheets in a mason jar of water. If the sheets dissolve, safe to use. Yes to formaldehyde free tank deodorants if you think you must. I often don't use deodorants and can't smell the tanks.

i've been using Borax detergent in my black water tank
came across a uTube on it
so far so good, no smells

We use no chemicals. We use AngleSoft. Just make sure it states septic safe and your good to go.

We use Scott tissue (its septic safe) and a mixture of Calgon liquid water softener and dish soap.

The Calgon water softener makes the water very "slippery" and helps t0 keep anything sticking to the tank or sensor. After dumping we add ~5 gallons of water and the mix before driving home. It then "scrubs" the tank while driving and sloshing around.

We use RV toilet paper and and deoderant packs (walmart) that they sell for the black tank. Why? because thats what they recomend.
