New to RVing and looking at Thor Axis

We are going to be new RVers and are considering a Thor Axis. Would love to here thoughts from Thor owners.

What kind of opinion/info are you looking for? We've had our Axis for 6 years now and still love it. Just ticked over 20,000 miles on it this year--admittedly not many miles for a 6 year old unit; we would probably have had a couple thousand more if it weren't for the pandemic this year.

Are you trying to find out if there are issues? Yes there are: all RVs have issues. Will there be bad ones? Maybe maybe not (probability is low that you'd have a huge issue but can't rule it out--can't rule that out with any RV sadly).

Once you work out the kinks will you love it? Maybe--some people love them, some people determine that they are too small and upgrade to something larger (even fewer people find they are too big and downgrade to a B or campervan).

Glad to hear you still love your Axis. We are considering the 27 so we would have the sofa and dinette. We have seen videos and pics online but not be able to see one in person. That may be our hesitation - don’t want to buy without actually seeing one. Doesn’t seem like any dealers have them in stock.

Welcome to the forum! You have tapped into an excellent source of experience and opinions.

Our Vegas fits us just right, but the model you are looking at may or may not be a fit for you. The best thing you can do is spend a week or even a weekend in a rental RV before you make any final decisions. You probably won't find the exact model you ae considering, but try to find a similar size and floorplan. You might find something like it in a Class C.

There are several video tours of the 27.7 in both Axis and Vegas (twins) on You Tube. Are you looking for new or used?

Yes, Rent one.
It will let you know if it's for you or not.

There are so many highly regretful owners here who didn't even bother to ask the salesman for a demo.
I'm sure there is an owner somewhere who will rent one out for a day or week.
We found a dozen or so 24.1 rentals when we were looking at them.

Know the quality, know the fit.
I'm sure there is little worse than the exasperation felt after a purchase and you knew nothing and still know nothing and have that $100,000 mistake sitting in your yard.
I'm glad you found this site pre-purchase. You're way ahead already.

Thanks for suggestion. We have not be able to find a dealer with the Axis in stock to even look at in person. And with most RV shows cancelled, it is making it more difficult.

Dealers don't rent them out, private parties rent them out.
I don't know the name of the website but it's a setup like airbnb.

It was two years ago but the spousal unit found three or four of the
Owner rents out their rv
Type sites.

I thought it sheer foolishness to rent your rv. If you're that broke, get hbo and stay at home.
But
The guy we met to rent(and didn't) the 24.1 had 6rv's he rented out.

We used them just about 1 year ago when we were determining what size RV we wanted.

If you just want to see something from Thor in about the same size, I have a 2019 Thor Windsport 27B currently in storage in White Marsh. (I see you are in Nottingham) It is 29 ft 3 in. so a bit larger. The front half of the unit is very close to the Axis 27.7. The rear has a king bed, with a similar slide-out and the bathroom is configured a bit different. Let me know....

If you want paint, get it painted.
Want a $2,000 microwave, tell the dealer.
Want a 2800w generator instead of the supplied 4000w? Tell the dealer.
There is NO LIMIT to the options available.

Yeah there really isn't anything the dealer won't let you "do" if you're willing to pay for them to modify the unit.

We just traded our 2015 Forest River 2861DS (Class C) for a 2021 THOR ACE 33.1 three weeks ago. We are on our 2nd night of our shake down trip. So far, so good. We were originally looking at a 2021 Forest FR3 33DS. We like floor plan and the quality of the interior materials on the THOR ACE.

There are few things we just wish are on the THOR ACE (like more furnace outlet towards the front area, outlets by the front bunk area). Otherwise, we love the unit.

Outlets are a pretty easy add.
The vents are about 4 bucks and the ducting is about 7 bucks for 10feet.
Add a 'T' or two and it's done.
Any handyman can do it in two hours if you don't want to do it yourself.
Avoid the dealer for this due to time.
Call a local handyman you trust.

It's a kit.
Make it yours.
Enjoy your new toy.
(consider a heat strip in the ac unit if the ducting won't go where you want it)

This seems a very good idea. I just need to figure out (or find out) the area where we can add heater vent. It was 25 degrees last night here at the CG in Williams, AZ. My son was complaining that it was cold in his bunk bed. Gave him 2 blankets, run heater all night. Tried to plug in a space heater too. But the wire will not reach the outlet (one problem we encountered was the electric plug outlet under the dinette was not working).
