An "Older" Newbie

Greetings fellow travelers:
I was on this FORUM a few years ago, but got too busy and forgot all about it. Now, having been retired for about a year, I have the time again to 'visit' and share/learn RVing knowledge.
My bride and I are contemplating a trip to OK from Eastern Panhandle of WV. We expect to travel in the spring and probably will take a more southern route in order to avoid mountains and too much traffic.
Suggestions coveted for places to visit, good, clean quiet campgrounds along the way, etc.
Thanks!

We prefer our travel to include NO INTERSTATES unless absolutely necessary...

Welcome and enjoy the back roads

You might enjoy Hi-Way 36, lots of old towns and mostly Ag communities

--There is a nice campground in the Spring Creek area just East of OK City. Be sure to visit the OK City bombing memorial , very moving. There is a river tour that is fun in the downtown area.
--The Huntsville SPace Center has a non-scenic but convenient campground and the museum is great.
---Land Between the Lakes in KY is beautiful,. We stayed at the Energy Lake campground. Pretty.

If by chance you go into Kentucky, Big Bone Lick State Park has a lot to offer motor homes. It is reasonable to stay at($25.00 night) with water and electric. They have a dump station on site. There is a museum that is free and they have live Bison roaming the fenced in grounds.

Can't really suggest a route that is not interstate, but there is a lot to do in the Pigeon Forge area of East Tennessee. The OKC area also has a lot to do. It is a large area with many suburbs and lots of attraction like golf, zoo, botanical gardens, amusement park, western heritage. Spring Creek Park need Edmond is okay as a base.

WE agree with you ! A lot depends on what you want to see on the way ! You have enough time to GOOGLE your route on Google Maps...then, decide how many hours a day you want to drive...then, once you set a destination for that day...look on the map and see what is available to see...I am the map reader for us...I rely on Google maps (we have a Garmin RV)...If we have a particular destination in mind, I will order from the State Chamber of Commerce a packet...I have, also, visited the States online to see what is neat...YOU must decide which States you want to travel through...looks like you might go through Kentucky...Louisville is a neat city..wineries in the area .. good food...for instance....TRIP PLANNER...take a look !

Welcome back! If you want to avoid mountain roads, part of your trip will include interstates. You'll have an epic trip if you aren't in a hurry.

If you go through Louisville stop at the Louisville Slugger Bat Company. Hopefully they have their tours still running.
