New (to me) 1995 Thor Dutchmen Class C

Greetings, I bought a 1995 Thor Dutchmen Class C motorhome (based on a Ford E-350 chassis). It came with 35k miles but it was clear it was a well-used/live in vehicle.

I ripped out the nasty 2 layers of carpet and installed click-lock flooring and a new toilet. Flushed all the tanks and did an oil/filter change. Everything was fine until the seal on the torque converter blew out on the freeway and dumped hot transmission fluid all over the hot exhaust, which resulted in a small fire. Luckily, I had a good fire extinguisher on hand was was able to prevent a total loss.

A compelete transmission rebuild later, I am now in search of the hose that goes from the fuel filler neck to the gas tank. The local Ford Stealership claims this part is no longer available from Ford and can't tell me anything about it.

I would deeply appreciate any guidance or direction on where I might find a suitable replacement hose.

Thanks, Marco in Burien, WA

Well it's probably NOT a Ford part anyway.

Pull the old one out.
Take it to your local NAPA or other parts store
See if they can match it or alt least provide a universal flex replacement of the correct diameter.

Thanks for the suggestion. The current hose is in shreds due to age and vandalism. :-(

Measure the diameter where each end attaches and the total length needed. Then start searching the internet.

I put <Fuel Filler Hose> into Google and got lots of options. You just need to find one the right size.

A 30 year old motorhome will bring out the resourcefulness... if you keep it long enough! Doesn't look too bad from the pic. I've seen a LOT worse out on the highway!!

Are you able to crawl under and measure the distance from the neck to the tank inlet?

If only it was that easy! The hose clamp at the gas tank end is positioned in such a way that it is impossible to get any tool on it to loosen it so I can remove the hose.

I may have to drop the tank to remove the hose completely and that is not something I feel qualified to do, unfortunately.

Regards,
Marco

Yeah, I've tried that and it's very difficult to find something with a bend at the gas tank end. I've been looking for days.

Thanks anyway,
Marco

Yes, it is about 23" long. The hard part is finding anything that is that length and has the bend at the gas tank end.

Not to mention the remnants of the existing hose are proving to be very difficult to remove. As per my earlier message, the hose clamp on the gas tank end is positioned in such a way that I can't get any tool on the business end to loosen the clamp. If only it had been installed flipped it would not be an issue. Dropping the tank is not going to be easy, or something I feel qualified to do.

Thanks,
Marco

Can you post a picture of the problem end?

Years spent working on MG & Alfa Romeo sports cars has encouraged me to figure out ways to access near impossible to reach fasteners.

Or
There are THOUSANDS of fuel filler variations available on Amazon and ebay.

Without a picture we can't help any further.
