Smile Intro and question

Hello All!!
My name is Niki. Me and my husband Bill are new RV owners!! We live in Metro Atlanta. We tailgated in our 2019! Thor Challenger a few weeks ago and are planning to take our maiden voyage in a few weeks.
I have a newbie question...
Does the whirlpool fridge and TVs work on electric when we are plugged in or do we have to run the generator to power them?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Congratulations and welcome.

Since you have a residential fridge: It is probably connected up to an inverter (converts 12V from the batteries to 120V for the fridge). If so then Yes: The fridge and TVs will likely run without being plugged in and without the generator running--but only for a limited time (depends on how many batteries you have).

Keep an eye on the 12V battery voltage.

Keep in mind also once the frig is cooled down completely you can go a few hours without running the generator or running off the batteries. Some say they can leave it off all night long and be fine. But in the heat of the summer you might only get a couple of hours in the daytime.

Just keep your eye on the temp and dont forget to turn it back out when you see unsafe temps.

I purchased a wireless temp gauge that shows both the freezer and frig temps outside on frig so I dont have to open the doors to check. You can even set HI and LOW alarms to alert them.

Oh yeah.... welcome to the best RV forum around!

They've got your question covered...
So I'll just ask you where you're taking it for the shakedown cruise, and wish you nothing but the best of luck!

I never turn the fridge off. It will run on inverter at least 24-30 hours on the 2 6V batteries which will cover any rest area stops or overnight boondocking. It stays plugged in at home to 120V 12 gauge cord. The TV's will use a lot of power from your batteries. Watch the meter closely. Also, read up on the Auto Generator Start function. This will CYA in the event you drink all the beer and fall asleep while watching TV. Happy Trails from Stockbridge.

This is a video of their RV, including the Mother-In-Law Suite attached. The Mother-In-Law never saw what was coming!!
