Just bought a ace 29.3 semi retired cropduster. Been working the southern states for ten years staying in hotels but last three years dw has been following me in a 5th wheel a lot better than hotels. Now we want to travel and see what we want and not just airports. I was on the keystone forum and learned a lot from members looking forward to learning all about the ace from all of you

New RVer

Hi I'm Mike Romeo. We just bought a new Thor Axis. I'm curious how much fresh water I can safely put in the tank while we are traveling. Thanks for any great advice. 25.2

Hello Mike, welcome.

I'll copy my answer to your question from another thread:

You can travel with as much, or as little water as you like--provided you don't otherwise have the camper loaded up such that its weight is over the gross vehicle weight rating. (Take it to a scale so you know.)

Most people travel with just a little water--enough to flush the toilets and wash your hands--and then fill up at the destination. In general this is how we travel: about 1/3 of a tank to ensure we have some for use at rest stops and the like.

We do have one annual trip where there is no water hookups and the campground is relatively nearby (about 90 miles). In that case I fill it to the top at home and drive there with a completely full water tank (and completely empty waste tanks). We've been going to this campground for quite some time and I've always done this regardless of the camper (two TTs, one 5er, and now our Axis).

JamieGeek said it just right. Remember that water weighs about 8.3 pounds per gallon.
Enjoy your Axis, and bring your questions here to this helpful forum!
