I wonder how a shorter, 25' fifth wheel would compare to your new Axis. I had one many years ago and I recall it was if anything more roomy inside than our Axis 24.1.

Maneuverability is another plus with a short fifth wheel. My Axis has a 188" wheel base so it its turning radius is rather long. A full size pickup truck pulling a 25' fifth wheel has a shorter turning radius and in my mind is easier to back into a campsite. I could make sharper turns backing up with the fifth wheel than I can with the Axis.

We had a 31ft 5th wheel prior to the 24.1. Backing the Axis is far easier than the 5er. Its like parking a large van compared to something 46ft long (5er length + pickup length-overlap).

Our 5er was a lot more roomy simply because it had a much larger slide (both couch+dinette in the slide) and it slid out a lot more (like 3' of slide motion vs 20-some inches with the Axis). Of course it had about 6 more feet in length and none of that space was taken up with a drivers seat either.

Isrota11: Welcome, if you haven't already download and read the crowd sourced Axis/Vegas owner's manual found here:
