New owner Thor Vegas 2018 25.3

My husband and I are new to the RV world. We just traded our travel trailer in and find the RV is easy to drive. Now I need to remodel to make my hinged bed and jackknife couch more comfortable. Any advice for us would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum!

My ‘17-24.1 has a standard 68” Sofabed (not a jackknife).
Honestly, we’ve never used as a bed other than trying it out at the dealership when we purchased.

As a sofa, it’s not very comfortable.
So, our plan is to replace with recliners at some point.

With your tight floorplan between the sofa & kitchen, you may not have enough room to extend recliners.

One of the reasons the couch on the Axis 24.1 is uncomfortable, at least on our 2021, is that the back is too vertical. There is at least 6" clearance in back of it to let it tilt back. I was able to do this by replacing the two hinges at the bottom which are light weight door hinges with heavier ones that I was able to elongate the holes with a round file to let the base go back which allowed the top to go back about 4". It now is much more comfortable.

A pic of the new hinge is attached. The old hinge is to the left and the new to the right. All it takes is about 3/8" more width which results in the top going back 4" more due to the geometry.

Thank you for your welcome. Trying to figure how to use this forum. Our Rig needs some modifications especially the couch. I’m wondering if anyone knows how to replace with a regular couch. How to modify the current storage under the couch.

We had hundreds of nights in our Vegas 25.2, which also had a folding bed and jackknife sofa,. Not much we could do with the jackknife, as the water tank is underneath. A foam topper made the bed much more comfortable. We used a bungee to keep it folded as it wouldn't fold flat with the foam.

Thank you I found a company in Orange County that is making a custom bed for our trailer. I have tried a topper without success. I am planning on adding a cushion on the jackknife sofa that should help while sitting on the sofa.

Are they making a mattress or changing the bed frame supports? We have a 2018 25.3 as well and we are researching replacement mattresses. We are just south of you in San Diego so an OC source would be great.

Check out Mattress Makers in La Mesa, CA. I had a discussion with them and went with a custom from Ortho...and threw it out. https://mattressmakers.com/

We have a quote from Custom Comfort Mattress in Newport Beach. We went to the showroom and tried their mattresses. Our mattress will have a hinge to fit our frame. Before we make our final yes I am going to La Mesa, ca to Mattress Makers to see what they can do for our rig. The height and hinge is the issue.

Sleep is essential.......
