New owner today hopefully

Possibly premature intro, but I'm killing time until we hear back from finance guy...

A couple of months ago we were happily riding out the quarantine from Mexico. Then the wife decided she'd rather be quarantining/distancing from somewhere with nice trees, and that's how we ended up deciding to become RV'ers. Real ones this time, since living in a pop-up camper for seven months in 2011 feels very distant. Since that decision, we have gone from "let's just pay cash for a used truck/trailer" to buying a Class C/toad to buying a Class C and chase car w/ financing. Researched a lot of makes/models. Made an 'interesting' trip across Mexico in a rental, walked across the border, rented another car in McAllen, leased a Honda in Laredo, looked at RV's in San Antonio, then drove back to the D/FW area. Gave up on a cheaper consignment Itasca deal that was taking forever, finally loosened our budget a bit and will hopefully be driving off in our Four Winds 31L by Wednesday.

Wow, that took more words than I'd intended.

Hi.

Didn't you just know that this whole quarantine thing was going to cost folks money?
Welcome to the Family, and good luck with the shopping!

There's an android app called
RV checklist.
It has a 279 item predelivery checklist.
I suggest you download it.

haven't had an Android device in quite awhile, but I'll look for a similar checklist elsewhere.

Don't let them rush the "Walk-Through".
Make sure that they explain how each system works, and that they are in fact working to YOUR satisfaction.
Good luck!

If you are going through a dealer and this is one of their used units do a good walk through. If it is a consignment shop they may not do a walk through and may not know how any of the systems operate.

Regardless, once you have the VIN enter it at the Thor Owners Resource center and see what documentation and manuals are available for download.

Hopefully it works out and you have many safe and enjoyable trips.

ok, second night in the new rig. Been busy with repairs and organization.

So far the only thing the dealer really *should* have caught is the right rear taillight assembly. Wife noticed I had no brake lights or turn signals on right side when following me to first park. Inspection revealed water leak which rusted out bulb wiring and rotted wood below.

Instead of trying to have dealer take care of this, and waiting and waiting for parts while spending $400/week in a hotel, I opted to treat it as a learning experience. Removed everything, replaced bulbs, replaced rusty screws, used wood putty for screw holes, reattached with new screws and butyl tape.

Wood damage does not appear to have rotted the panel all the way to the bottom. Regardless, this wall is separate from the internal wall of the bedroom. Repair of this piece does not seem fast or easy, so holding off for a later date.

Sanitized water system, found out that some sort of insect utilized the fresh water air return hose for nesting purposes. Picked up some magnetic catches for drawer catch replacements. Tightened up a couple of fuse-holders so the fuses wouldn't work loose and turn off lights and TV. Acquired sewer hose, fresh water hose, filter, pressure regulator. Set up new walkie-talkies for cross-vehicle comms.

Mostly unpacked and organized. Ready to head out in the AM, generally pointed at southern end of the Rockies...

Once you get the rotted wood sorted you should coat the inside of the tailight cutout with something.

For ours I coated the inside with Flex Seal--the only thing I've ever used that product for LOL.

So far so good. I recently replaced the taillight assemblies with LED ones which gave me the opportunity to see how the FS has held up for about 3 years. It looked as good as new...
