Hi New Owner new member

Hi my name is Jeff. My wife and i live in the Houston Area. We recently bought a 2019 Thor Chateau 30d. Its our first RV, We rented a Phateon back in 2014 and traveled the east coast and loved it.
Question:We used it this weekend down on the San Bernard river. We woke up at 2 in the morning with a ton of mosquitos in the RV. All the windows and ceiling vents were shut. 5 adults and two toddlers lots of bites.
Has anyone had experience with this issue? I have it at the RV dealer who is checking all he seams etc and he doesn't see anything that would allow that many skeeters in.

Welcome to the forum!
Any window or roof vent left open should be considered a suspect.

Welcome to the forum. I can't imagine how that happened, but I hope you get it figured out.

I am not familiar with your specific coach but I am familiar with the basic Thor Class C design on the E-450 / F-550 Chassis.

If your kitchen is on the slide, which I think it is, there are "bags" under the width of the slide that are cut open to allow the slide to move around the plumbing and electric, which does not move with the slide because the connections points are mounted to the frame / chassis.

These bags are problematic and can often leave large gaps or openings under the slide when it is out that can allow bugs and rodents to get into the coach depending where you are and how long it is out.

These openings are not always easily visible the from inside the coach because they are under the kitchen cabinets, stove, etc. I can get at mine fairly easily through hinged access panels and often adjust mine after opening the slide to keep the openings to a minimum. You may have to remove drawers, etc. to see yours. You can also look under the slide when it is out to see what I am talking about.

I am currently on a trip and came up with a plan to solve the problem better. I am going to have my wife make canvas panels with velcro sewed into the outside perimeter of the panels that are large enough to cover the openings under the slide. I am then going to put adhesive-backed velcro on the underside of the slide. When we get to where we are going, I will put the slide out and then put the canvas panels over the openings under the slide. That should prevent most anything from getting into the coach through those openings.

I will post pictures once I get this modification done.

those pesky things come in when you and the children do .... once you are all in and ready for bed get rid of the mosquitoes .... there are many products available to do this....most people do not like to us a toxin in a motorhome....BUT I DO as I do not like the BITES!!!!!! Pic is one but source out your own....and by the way we have 3 very intelligent healthy adult children that have suffered the occasional pic burn/mosquito kill....

Pests

mosquitos can lay eggs in your screens and if you open your window for only a brief time they can get in. Maybe spray your screens.

Slide seals are not compressed and sealing when the slides are being extended or retracted. During operation there are gaps in the wipers and bugs can get in during that time. I once had a nest of wasps get in the Challenger when I retracted the dining area slide. I was killing wasps inside the coach for a week. Luckily it happened while we were home so I had time to eradicate the pests.

Thanks, i think i discovered part of the problem. Under the bed in the back is a strorage compartment that you can open from under the bed or outside. Well the plywood under the bed had a big gap in it. Shoddy construction work. I taped it up for now until i can get it fixed.

I'd add that mosquito eggs hatch out of calm water-make sure you don't have puddling anywhere under your sinks, etc. Not likely but you never know.
