New for us a 2015 Thor Vegas

Our first RV and so far we love it.
we have done 2 camping trips and gearing up for an extended excursion to Colorado.
I downloaded the manual that has been referred to and Wow what a help.
If anyone has any tips for first timers like us it would be welcomed.

pjcrc,

You are in for a real treat. If this is your first trip to Colorado all of the states in that region have some of the most awesome vistas you will ever see so I hope you have a lot of storage space in your "cloud" or whatever system you will use. You may end up with sensory overload so try not to do too much in too short a time and save some things for a return trip as you will probably want to go back some day.

Welcome and congrats!

I think many beginning RVers don't realize that you probably won't cover as many miles in a day with an RV, compared to a car trip. We average about 50 miles per hour on interstates, driving 65. Six to seven hours fits my copilot about right, although I am good for much, much longer.

We enjoy relaxed evenings and unrushed mornings, with brief stops for fuel, to stretch and for lunch. When we are on a time crunch, we'll do up to 400 miles. We'll stay at WMrt or Cracker Barrel if it isn't too hot and it doesn't make sense for us to use a campground. Check out the OvernightRVParking ap or website.

We plan to stop on the far side of bigger cities, so we aren't fighting the traffic in the morning. We do the same for car trips. Some folks are wanderers. We are planners, with a flexible planned route and stops.

If you have been reading the forum awhile, you've probably seen the good advice to get an alignment from a capable truck service. Some coaches don't need it, some need it badly.

Been to Colorado many times, and one trip will leave you wishing for more! Enjoy the journey!

I actually aim for no more than five hours. That includes stops every two hours (max) to just stretch and walk around. On two lane roads, I stay to the right. Drivers merging onto the freeway ignore you. I actually honk when they are merging, just to get their attention. Also idiots tend to try and cut you off to make their exit.

hours driving

Yes I had seen before where people were talking about how many hours a day they drive and we were planning on 5 to 6 hours a day especially to start out, since we haven't really gone any long distances. We have been camping close to home so I can go to work and save my vacation time for the big Colorado trip.
I am sure its more stressful driving an RV vs a car... and sometimes a car can be very stressful on a long trip.

Depends on how relaxed a driver you are, and the pace of your trip.

Even allowing for only driving X hours if you are "off-plan" that can introduce extra stress (e.g. we have to be to campground Y before nightfall).

On the other hand, you're going camping so you should be starting out relaxed to begin with
