Picking up our Outlaw 29J this weekend.

Hey all! My wife and I are picking up our new 2021 Thor Outlaw 29J this weekend and looking forward to enjoying the ThorLife. This will be our first RV.

Would love to hear from folks about any must haves and specific quality brands for a new owner. We are cyclists and plan on taking it out often for biking adventures, hence the toy hauler. We have done tons of research but are very curious as to RV related items that folks feel are immediate additions including the mundane type of stuff like this list we have started to assemble from a friend and the Thor video. Also, if anyone has experience with a good floor mounted bike rack for the garage for 3-4 bikes, we are all ears!

Thanks and we look forward to this resource as we start our adventure!

30 amp breaker
Wheel chucks
Leveling Pads
Spider/Ant spray
Potable water line
Potable water filter
Air compressor
Power cord/line and adapter (breaker?)
Coax line
Spare fuses?
Sewer hose?
Clear bin
Gloves

Welcome from a fellow 29J owner. We have put 5,000 miles on ours since November and have made a few changes based on what we learned along the way.
1. Our biggest changes have been in the garage. We removed the under bed cabinet, bed headboard storage cabinet, and RV matress. We added a regular queen pillow top mattress in the garage and built 2 storage cabinets on the back wall of the garage that provide 3-4x the storage space than the factory ones and we can still fit 2-3 motorcycles in the garage. This helps us as we take alot of 2 week trips.
2. Moved the TV on the garage up higher so you can watch TV with the bed down or halfway down (when motorcycles are in the garage).
3. The cabinet we built under the aluminum storage bin that came in the garage works as a step stool to get into the bed when it's raised.
4. I ordered storage crates that fit in the outside storage bins which I really like. Thor leaves exposed electronics in the storage bins that I did not like so I prefer to have the storage crates to keep things from moving around so much.
5. We tinted the van windows and over the windshield which reduced the temp while driving considerably. I definitely recommend that.

Enjoy the new RV!

An issue that I have with my 29J is that it trips the breaker running both a/c units about 10% of the time. The RV should have come with 50amp service so this would not be an issue.

I am looking into what it will take to run the garage A/C off an extension cord to the campground power post to avoid tripping the breaker when both a/c units draw over 30 amps.

Thanks so much for these tips. Would love a pic or two if you have them.

Another option if you ever boondock with both AC’s running off generator power (I assume you’ve tried and this also trips the internal panel breaker)...
- install a soft-start on the “big” AC
That is, as you may already know, it’s generally the start up that trips the breaker
