Smile Newbie to motor homes

We just finished a test drive of a 2015 Vegas 24.1 and really liked it. Left a deposit so we wouldn't lose it but need to sleep on such a large purchase. We are coming from 30' travel trailer and I'm a little concerned about losing so much storage ...no linen closet, not much space for clothes....and such a tiny bathroom. Did anyone else have the same concerns and how has your adjustment been?

We moved from a 31' 5th wheel to our 24.1. We were very surprised at how much we were able to cram into the 24.1! LOL
The 24.1 floorplan has tons of overhead storage. In our case part of the overhead in the bedroom became the linen storage, the pantry is over the sink, all the dishes go under the range (hint: don't get the oven go with the convection oven you gain 3 large drawers that way).

We've been able to fit just about everything into the 24.1 (the items that aren't in the 24.1 are the 5th-wheel specific things that we got rid of).

The bathroom isn't really that small when you open it up (in ours we have the original door that opens up into the bedroom; your 2015 should have the two doors that can open against the wall. Even in the 2015 configuration the bathroom is pretty big when opened up like that. We liked the bathroom configuration--it was a selling point for us.

We have a Vegas 24.1 and agree wwith Jamie - we have lots of space. Store glasses, dishes, and bowls above sink. We use the overhead storage above the couch as a pantry and storage for extra linen. Plenty of space for clothes and towels in all the overhead storage in bedroom. The closet holds quite a bit of clothing on hangars.

The longest we were out was three weeks. Had plenty of space for the two of us and our 15 lb dog.

We really love our 24.1 and love the floorplan. We configure the bedroom as twin beds. If you send your email to me at bevedfelker@live.com I'll forward you an Axis/Vegas manual developed from suggestions on the forum.

Thank you both for your suggestions . You have made us feel better about the size. Although it seemed big enough when we were in it, we started wondering while driving home. We love the idea of a small RV that can go anywhere and that we can keep at home. I will definitely send you an email for the manual as we know we will use it. We said we'd make a decision in the next few days. Thanks again for the feedback.

We downsized from a 37 foot A to our 24.1 Axis almost two years ago.

We have no problems with the cabinet space and manage well with the small closet by folding some clothes. The only thing about the bathroom that is too small for us is the shower!! The main living space seems plenty big enough when the slide is out, and we travel with TWO Labradors!!! We use the front seats with the table between them as our eating area and rarely use the table in front of the couch.

Actually, the only thing we really preferred about our large A was the slide in the bedroom and the walk around bed! We usually make up the 24.1 into an oversize king, though the twin configuration is easier to get in and out of, especially for bathroom trips in the night!! We use a fitted twin and a fitted full as our bottom sheets, and then use king size bedding for top covers. Works great!!

What we absolutely love about the Axis is its 94" width. Much easier when you hit construction on the expressway and narrow lanes!! Also, because it is so much shorter than what we had, we can take it out around town with much less hassle.

Everything is a trade off, but we are happy with our decision to downsize. If you decide to make the switch, you will find lots of helpful folk on here to help with the transition!!

I agree with all the comments. Our Vegas 25.2 is perfect for us, bigger shower and walk around queen bed. We had a 5th wheel and then a 33' class a before. The 5th wheel was great to take somewhere and stay for an extended time. Now we travel differently, moving to a different location every day, or every few days. We learned we didn't need all that much for clothes and stuff. Love the smaller coach on the road, and enough room to be comfortable for our first two-month trip.

Thanks for all the helpful hints. Certainly has helped with our decision, which by the way, we've decided to take the plunge and get the 24.1. Is there anything we should have the dealer do or add before we take it off the lot? I think I read somewhere about getting the front end aligned? Where can we get that done? It's great to know there are so many helpful RVers.

There has been PDI discussions on this forum before. Try a search for that. We had our dealer do the software update on the front radio. This job went to the sales guy, and he said it took more time than expected.

We got our 24.1 in May. Have about 10,000+- on it.

As we normally don't need hanging clothes I put 3 shelves in the closet. Make 3 "ladders" that I put in and the 1/2" plywood stained shelving hold the "ladders" in place. Love the extra shelf space. We folded one set each of "good" clothes and put in zippered plastic covering. Put them over one bed for when we might need them.

I also added nylon screen in front of radiator to keep bugs out of radiator. Works well.

Enjoy your new unit!!

We've already been thinking of putting shelves in that closet as it would create a lot more space for us. Like the screen suggestion too.

We will enjoy it!

I chose the "ladder" frame left, right & rear so there would be no holes to drill. Also can remove it in less than a minute!

LSO,

We really like our Vegas 24.1.

I had a bit of an adventure with the house batteries (the two under the step), see thread on this Forum. I would recommend checking to see if they are Harris Batteries and if they are either request a change out or get in writing who will cover the warranty should the batteries go "Sulfate dead" in the first year.

Also verify the routing of the transmission cable as it relates to the exhaust system as some units have the plastic cable touching the exhaust system, see thread "E350 won't shift out of Drive..." this Forum.

Last, be sure your Vegas is not under the Safety Recall for the AC/Heater controller it was for selected 2016 Vegas/Axis so may not apply to the 2015, see thread this Forum.

Once we got these three taken care of last weekend's Road trip to Georgia was all thumbs up.

Keith, any more info (pictures) on the mesh screen in front of the radiator? After the last road trip to and from Ga I spent some 20 minutes picking out some kind of moths out of the radiator.

As an update, the dealer will do little negotiating on the PDI fee of $1500 and we refuse to pay that much, on top of some processing fee of $589. One of the comments made to us last weekend was that we would have a full tank of gas and propane but they didn't tell us it would be at our own expense. How disappointing!

Run and find another dealer you will be much better off, and more than likely after the sell too.

Things do happen for a reason. This will have us buying a 2016 instead of the 2015 and maybe that's for the better. Our excitement about the RV will soon override the sour taste for dealers that we have.

Yeah once you're camping in it you'll have some fun stories to tell around the campfire.
