The premise of your question is incorrect.

"Is that the same with all RVs?"

Unfortunately - yes. It seems what little QC/QA existed in the industry before 2020 has almost disappeared.

Check the LizAmazing channel on Youtube, you'll see major issues from all manufacturers.

Can you get a well put together RV? Sure, there's lots of people that are happy with their RV. They did their research and proper pre-purchase inspection and got what they expected. Those people don't post too frequently on Forums. People come here for help with fixing their problems, and some stick around to help others with problems.

Others just come to complain about their RV.

Some are only happy when they have RV problems to complain about.

Some get educated on their lack of research and preparation in the RV buying process.

Many learn that most dealers are essentially worthless once they have you money.

In any case, once the RV "kit" is properly assembled they usually have a good time with their new toy. We hope that is your experience.

The pre delivery inspection is a very important one that you should have done before accepting the coach. It takes time and effort on your part. As you go through it closer now that it is in your hands, make up a list of the things that you can not fix/correct that your dealer will have to complete. Start up a good relationship with your dealership's service manager to help you navigate through the first year warranty period. Hopefully you have a good service department manager to work with you.

Yup- I knew it when I got my 2nd TMC RV, deciding it had all I wanted, just not how I wanted it. 2 yrs later is mine, all mine... 80 mods+ later.

Hope you're handy!!

Thor RVs are badly made, no other way to put it.

I have and XG32 and have spent a good deal of time cleaning up the abysmal workmanship. Now that I have cleaned up most of the crap, I am actually quite happy with the platform. I am happy to share my experience with you as you have questions. Please feel free to reach out!

2 1/2 years

I have to agree with most of the post. It took 2 1/2 years but I was able to take my first full trip without a catastrophic breakdown. A lot of work with Thor top level personnel.

Not saying I didn’t have issues (mini fridge replacement, 2 pipe leaks and 3rd failure of bunk shade), but that’s Rving. You can always expect something to come up, but not having a trip ending issue felt good.

One post.
There is no consolation for some posters.

Some people aren't happy unless they just aren't happy.

Think why they haven't been back though they claim emotional and financial devastating incurable thor based damage.

We're the doctors.
They've turned their back on help.
They didn't ask about a single cure or path.

They Could not make a list of how we could help.
They Think their post might someone sway those of us who already own
Or
Think everyone will find this site prior to purchase...even though they did not.

What life decisions are made without any research being made is just wild.

Sell it.
It will never be worth more than it is today.
Gone is as valuable as gold.

Think ex-spouse you dislike.
Espouse the same thinking of a gone rv you dislike.

If this seems harsh:
It can only be harsh when you recognize it as true.

OP long gone

I wonder how one can have $200k to buy a brand new RV that they just bought and view as "poor craftsmanship & crappy work".

I mean do people buy RVs online or mail order sight unseen? If they do, don't they still have to do the PDI?

Yes.
We had one here for a post or two a few years ago.
Bought on line
Delivered to house.
couldn't be there for delivery due to a dog shampoo appointment or something like that.

She couldn't figure out the ignition key and (I think) we cured it by telling her to push on the brake pedal then try to start it.

I'd swear this forums management makes some of these single posts up just to jack us.
If they do indeed do this:
Good for them for being creative.

An old forum I was on back near the bbs days
from years ago would occasionally stir crap just for sake of it by writing obscure points few would know were correct and certainly many would declare as wrong.

It was stimulating.
We learned a lot.

Shame on TMC for not contracting with Dealers that can be more considerate for dog appointments. They need more PETA Sales Managers and that problem would have been solved.

I am hoping the lady a week or two ago with the leap of faith in Camping World and her extended warranty with Good Sams comes back and tell us how it went.

There was the guy who sent his wife to sign and pick up the rv then was angry about everything imaginable and tried to return it maybe months later.

I always wonder what they do for a living and who's life besides theirs they may have ruined due to such decision making.

1st mistake, buying a new RV. You lost 35 percent when you drove it off the lot.
If you’re not familiar with RV’s have someone who is go thru it and over it with a fine tooth comb and report back to the dealer.
Expect months to get things right.

Bought a new THOR 45 mx in 2019 and have had very few but relatively minor issues ie: adjust Girard awnings, replace a couple floor tiles,, replace dash air compressor. Nothing that prevented use of the rv. Dollar for dollar we are very happy owners. We had a aTHOR 2016 40 and loved it too. That’s why we bought the 2019 45. We’ve been accross the country 4 times without issues LOVE IT !

While I agree with premise and point of your post, don't you think it is assumptive to say you lose 35% when you drive it off the lot?

1st mistake may actually be overpaying the present value of the motor home. It matters not whether it is New or Used.

I remember when I bought mine in 2019 Pre Covid days, I actually paid LESS for a brand new than for two used exact same make and model units I considered. Some folks on this very forum suggested I should have paid more for the used because the problems they imagined I would had with new would have been worked out. If I thought the product was that bad, I don't want to buy one hoping somebody else fixed it.

It wasn't my fault nor my responsibility to try to help them pay off their loans because the foolishly overpaid when they bought. MSRP to me means the referential price you use start the negotiations. Multiply it by .7 to see how good or bad your deal actually was as that may have been true 1st mistake.

True depreciation / appreciation on annual basis is exact same regardless of new / used. Case and point. My 2019 RV that I bought new has appreciated despite the age. A few years I had the Dealer I bought from offer me $60k more than I paid for it during covid, but I figured if we all gonna die what difference would it make; so I kept it

Immediate loss of 12%+ due to non refundable tax and license.(but look at your contract to see what those particular lines amount to. We bought ours used and private party so no tax in out state)

Vehicle is now registered as used for any sale after.

Used goes by the book not by sticker.
Look up 2023 vehicle of your choice in any book then look up sticker.

Stigma attached to a used vehicle with low miles spells LEMON to all but the most inquisitive and knowledgeable (and we know sure as can be that this sure isn't but a barely measurable percentage of rv buyers)

Signed,
I've bought back PLENTY of current model year cars.
We start at 50% of INVOICE and would never ever ever pay 75% of invoice.
If a profit FAR GREATER THAN CAN BE ON A NEW MODEL can't be made...why bother with it?
We have to buy it cash because it's not fitting new car flooring/finance anymore.
I'll say I've easily been involved in over 200(conservatively)of them as buybacks and hundreds that we didn't buy back.
You bought it without her, wife said no...we'll say no until you say yes.

The odd rv market of the last few years WAS an exception. Lots are now overflowing. No need for a dealer to want a used on the lot unless you can sell it demonstratively cheaper than the exact new one.
Demonstrative equals 35% saving to buyer.
Then COMPOUNDED by the initial buyers loss of tax and licensing COMPOUNDED by any dealer profit to be made to equal what was really lost.

Consider our one post folk.
The new is 200,000
The used is 150,000
They bought the new
Every.single.time.
Maybe just because the interest rate on used is so much higher or maybe they're too good for used or maybe they think the used is bait and switch.

Book value on a used rv drops considerably every month...the dealer has retained it for 6 months(stats show there is a years worth of inventory sitting on the lots right now so I'm being generous with the six months)
Any buyer turning back in a same or recent model year will lose, today, 50% of gross net after tax money in the bank.(ymmv...but I doubt it)

This is very good information for any that wish to read and understand. It is worth noting we only bought our RV because at the time we wanted a new Navigator and at the time Lincoln would only sell at MSRP ($109k) they were in demand. We then reasoned for that kind of money we could buy an RV and just keep our old Navigator. It worked great because we always travel in the RV. We would later buy the new Navigator at 30 - 40% off MSRP. We still have the old Navigator because I am trying to get over 200,000 mile. I am at 194,000 mile now. This is on my bucket list

FWIW, In Texas when you try to register a Used vehicle they will tax you at a rate equal to bill of sale, or what they have calculated as the presumptive sale value, which ever is higher is what you have to pay tax on if you want a title.
