Outer Banks With Newly Purchased Tiburon

Took ownership of a 2020 Tiburon 2 weeks ago and got to do one night at Normandy Farms, Foxboro, MA before winterizing it for the winter this week .
I think we will have lots of fun times with it in and around the NorthEast first and then going South and hopefully SouthWest. Planning our first real trip next April to Outer Banks . Appreciate any words of wisdom on what you have enjoyed in/around the Outer Banks.

OB "was" on our top 5 list of places to go. After a lot of research, full hookups are scarce, ferry lines are very long and hours waits as you jump through the barrier islands. Restaurants/bars and places to see are nearly non-existent. It's a tree huggers dream come true but not for us. We grew up spending summers on Gulf Beaches and on the eastern coast...mostly Savannah Beach area. OB offers nothing we haven't seen our whole life. Pretty desolate but that's why a lot of people go there.

Not going during high season but most likely late April-early May so as to avoid the issues that you mentioned.

Good timing...we planned our western run this starting in April...kids still in school and no vacationers yet. Runway was smooth and uncluttered. Our NW tour next year will be same way.

The Outer Banks is large, so which area are you looking at?

If you want the hustle and bustle of a high traffic area stay nort around Duck or Nags Head. If you want sparse and laid back go down NC 12 to Rodanthe or Waves. We like Camp Hatteras in Waves.

Love my Outer Banks! Just left, heading back in May! Ocracoke national camp ground is one of my favorites!

You know you can visit most of the Outer Banks without ever seeing a ferry? Ocracoke is the only island where you need to use a ferry to get to.

"Restaurants/bars and places to see are nearly non-existent" couldn;t be further from the truth. So much to see and do it would take you weeks just to skim the highlights. And who goes camping for the "Restaurants/bars "?

Of course the sights and atmosphere may not be everybody's cup of tea, but the traffic and lack of campsite availability in the high season certainly demonstrates it's a lot of peoples' cup of tea.

I take boat and yaks, free parking at ramp
We go claming by Hatteras ferry
Off shore for fishing
Great food at Jason's
Another 1/2 dozen pubs
Nice grocery store
Insane pristine beaches!
Why we go all the time.

Whatever floats your boat. We were looking at doing Outer Banks on a one-way south to North run, continuing on northbound. Not a good option as most of it would be a "circle back". I've seen most of the east coast south of there and it's not much different. Brown-greyish beaches with green ocean water you can't see through. Yall have fun there...not my cup of rum. I'm allergic to tree bark.

Looks like we are settling on Camp Hatteras for three nights and then moving up to Kitty Hawk RV park for 2 nights as we start to head back north.

What's the story with using another RV site to "dump" before leaving OBX if we haven't stayed there ?

Most campgrounds will have a dump station that you use to dump if you don't have full hook-ups at your site

If you didnít stay at their park they might allow dumping for a fee.

that's what I thought would be the case...seems like a fair number of the OBX RV sites do not have "dump" options .

There are rv dumpsite/dumpstation apps that show locations all over the country. As Ted said, I can't imagine any campground that doesn't have a central dump station on the property...other than BLM's or total dispersed areas.
