Propane alarm in new Thor Compass

Brand new owner--first time RVer and first post. The propane alarm continues to go off even when not in use. First appointment for service is Sept.
20. REALLY? Any ideas? Is that something that can be ordered and plugged in myself? Thanks!

You must learn “how-to” in your new RV
Otherwise it’ll be sitting in the dealer’s repair lot instead of being available for you to use.

Regarding the Propane sensor...
- I’d start with compressed air in the vents of the unit
- if that doesn’t work,,,unscrew it, take it off wall, unplug it
- then try compressed air again throughout (plug in, see if it works)
- I might even take apart and put back together (take photos as you are doing so). Then plug-in see if it works
- finally, see what the cost on Amazon is for a replacement (abt $50). Generally much cheaper and less of a hassle than making appnt 6-8wks out, driving to dealer, leaving RV at dealer for another 2wks, then returning to dealer to pick-up

They can also assist, might even send out a new part to you if you tell them you’ve done everything to try & fix

You didn't state if this is new a rv or just new to you. If you go the CP in the header bar, go to edit signature & fill in your coach or other pertinent info will help with diagnosing your future issues.
First thing, have you checked &/or tightened all the LP fittings you can find? Mix dish soap with water in a spray bottle to check them, if it bubbles it's leaking.
If in a used rv those detectors have a 5+/- year lifespan & must be replaced. Pull the unit out the find the date on the back.
They are hardwired directly to the house batteries & will chirp if those batteries are low.
If you've used an air freshener or some other type of aerosol spray that will also cause it to chirp.
One last thing, yes it's a fact, if you have a dog that lays near that detector & breaks wind that will set it off.
I won't recommend using compressed air to blow it out for fear of damaging the sensor. If you do hold it far away, do not blow directly into the detector.

What's the status of your house batteries? Most of these alarms will activate if the supply voltage is too low as the batteries discharge.

Don't rule out that you actually have a propane leak. Think you can smell it, think again. I purchased an electronic propane leak detector. Best thing I ever got. It can be very sensitive and you won't necessarily smell it.

The propane alarms only last 8 to 10 years.,if your unit is that age. You will have to replace the alarm. If newer instead of go to dealer and give them your unit for four months. Replace it in your own.

We had some onion trimming in the garbage 5 ft from the sensor and it set it off. The sensor does not only SMELL propane.

The alarm issues never reappeared. I ordered and received a $10 replacement, but did not switch it out.
I am still confused that some people say that screeching alarm can be triggered by either the stabilizers not being fully up AND/Or the propane issue.

I can’t imagine that two totally different types of causes could trigger the same alarm. ?

It's not the same alarm - it just sounds the same.

And a $10 propane alarm? Where did you find that?
