The other key point about this scenario is that a person needs to get their out of state purchased Motorhome registered in California within I believe 60 days otherwise you get charged a late fee. I was sold a line of BS from the Arizona dealer I purchased mine from about how the process works and the timeframes (fortunately they put that in writing). I was able to get the late penalty waived because of the written documentation.

It would make a big difference in Indiana. The annual excise tax can be substantial (mine was nearly $1500) for a new coach and it declines by about $150-200 for each year it ages.

Call the RVIA, it’s supposed to be registered as to the year of the coach. They can send you the laws concerning it. Mine was a 2014 chassis but a 2015 coach and it’s registered as a 2015.

I’m confused. His dealer paper work shows the coach is a 2011.
I went through this in NC - Chassis is a 2017, Coach is a 2018, title says 2018 and so does the Bill of Sale. So registered as a 2018. BUT the DMV originally went forward with the chassis age even though the BoS was 2018, spent almost 60 days getting it corrected to a 2018. Only matters if you want to sell it later. had I gone with the 2017, I would have paid less in sales tax, property/road use taxes and insurance, but I bought and paid for a 2018 and I wanted it registered as a 2018.

We just purchased a 2019, with 1500 miles. It was sold and titled as a 2018! I’m not sure why this is allowed seeing regular automobiles are made in 2020 and titled 2021?? (Example)

Because model years don't align with calendar years. Normally, you would have 2021 RVs for sale now.
