It's just best to stay away from unfriendly gun territories with a gun.

Hmmmmm...let's see...visit the unknown territories of Canada without any personal protection, or stay in my own country good ole' US of A, and feel protected...something to think about indeed...

I'll respectfully disagree with with the Boss here (And if I'm wrong: please let me know about it!): we're not too close to straying into the "Dark Waters" just yet...
But this is not about that anyway.
It's about having the common sense and good manners to obey the Law.
Here's a point that needs to be made:
If you're a visitor into another County: you don't get to make the rules. It's their ball and their court.
You have several possible choices:
Ignore the rules, and pay for what happens to you; if you get caught.
Consider finding a legal way to accomplish what you are trying to do...
or...
Just don't go to that Country.

If you choose to ignore their laws and get caught: rest assured that we all will be paying the price for it! The term "Ugly American" unfortunately has a factual basis behind it. Nobody here is free from the consequences of their choices.

FOR THE RECORD: I am a Benefactor Member of the NRA, and firmly believe in the right of responsible citizens to own and use firearms legally.

...Legally...

I am Canadian and the law is no handguns will be brought into Canada, that`s the law up here. I understand if you have all of your documents in order long guns such as hunting rifles and shotguns are permitted as long as you can prove you are gong hunting at some point (eg a booking at a hunting lodge etc.) The border people are only doing their jobs and will either charge you or just not allow you into Canada and after that may even ban you from ever coming into Canada.
If you bring in long guns declare them at the border and be prepared for a thorough searching of your vehicle.
My advice if you want to come up to Canada do not bring any weapons in and you will have no problems, Bear spray is OK but Mace is not.

Bob - I agree completely. It all boils down to legality.

I’ll add another data point that many (?) of us may not be aware of. While it’s legal to transport a firearm throughout the US, you must know and obey the local laws. Just because something is legal in WV, for instance, it may be completely illegal in the state you’re in. So the traveler must be aware.
Being in an RV may also be completely different than being in a car. So we need to be aware.
For example. Several states are “duty to inform” states, which means that after “good morning officer” the next words need to be “I’m carrying a firearm.”

The National Reciprocity Act of 2017 gives you very liberal rights across America...if you have or qualify for a Carry Permit in your home state...but, as WearyTraveler stated...you better read up on the individual laws (similar to speed traps) of the state(s) you will travel.

Know and obey the federal transport law when traveling through states that do not honor your permit. I try to avoid states that do not honor my permit.

Which States recognize the permits of others?
We could spend two Months, and 500 pages worth of a thread discussing it...

... and still not have it all correct!

I do the best that I can to comply, and stay out of the States, where I know that nothing but bad can happen.

I use an app called CCW. It updates frequently. I also use another called Legal Heat.

Thanks. They match CCW. I tend to check things twice a year, normally when state laws and changes to state laws are about to go into effect.

The only thing that is good for in Canada is if you run out of toilet paper.

^^^You won't get that far^^^...there's plenty of toilet paper in the jails. All you will get by boasting of a weapons permit is a much more thorough shakedown.
