Welcome!

We took ownership of a brand new ‘17 Windsport 34J right after hurricane Harvey. Close to 50k miles later, I wouldn’t trade the experience(s) for anything. You will run into a number of issues during your first shakedown runs and even more as you pile on the miles. Don’t be discouraged. Learn from it, grow from it, and have fun. Bring some whiskey & some wine.

Really appreciate all of your comments and advice. We're going to be doing a "shake down" camping trip this coming weekend in which we'll test our "book" knowledge on all the assets of the motorhome. The learning phase has been a bit daunting, especially the control panel but we think we're well enough along to test everything. As I previously said our Wellness Doctor wanted us to constantly exercise our brains. Learning everything about our J34 is certainly a challenging exercise!

Thanks much Colonel. Always good to know I'm with kindred spirits.

My husband (also AF!) and I will also be taking off in mid-January and heading to Florida. We are starting our journey from home which is on the Twilight Side Of The Hill in Dandridge Tennessee. I've made reservations for ourselves and a neighboring RV couple along the way, starting with two state parks in Georgia and then a couple of campgrounds in Florida and then one more down in the Keys for a few nights.
From Tampa South, there are slim pickings for campgrounds, so be sure to make any reservations you need well in advance. Mid month January also is the Tampa RV show, so everything around that area is pretty much booked solid.
Have fun on your trip! Travel safe and enjoy life!

So very good to be among kindred spirits. We lucked out in that we had a very late start at securing a Florida camp site, but we found a new one about 140 miles south of Orlando, Torrey Trails RV & Golf Resort, that had room for us. My good wife will join me in the 8th decade on 2/19/22 and the daughters made it very clear we were to be back in the Outer Banks so they, other family members, and friends can properly celebrate the occasion! Thus, our Florida camping will be from 15 Jan - 14 Feb. Merry Christmas and a very happy and healthy 2022.

Congratulations

Welcome to the RV lifestyle. One thing I have learned with RV'ing is that things will go wrong, not start, make noise, etc. This is a good state of mind to keep so that when something does go bad, it is not a surprise and it is not because you are unlucky, or you "bought a piece of junk" or any other type of spritual justification.

That’s a good attitude! Thanks for reminding me

Hello Master Chief and welcome to the world of RVing. Thank you for your service and thanks to your good wife for putting up with military life.

I'm sure you have already seen your share of parts of the world during your career but you are about to embark on a new adventure of traveling to places you only dreamed about before and never had the time to explore. Now you can sit a week next to the Grand Canyon. Plan a few week trip to Montana to hunt Elk or just watch them. Visit Arizona and explore the desert and Indian glyphs in the hills. You are going to have a wonderful time and the best part is there is never any hurry. Enjoy life my friend enjoy.
