We're newbies!

Hello everyone! We're picking up our 2020 Vegas 24.1 on Saturday! This is our first delve in to the RV'ing world, and we're SO looking forward to it! We're not yet retired, so there will be alot of weekend trips here in Florida. We appreciate any words and nuggets of knowledge! Be safe everyone!

Welcome and congratulations! We are literally in the same boat (or RV). I also picked up a 2020 Thor Vegas a couple months ago. Bought it at General RV (Dover FL) and drove it to San Diego. Baptism by fire as they say. I haven't been in a RV since I was a kid.

Some nice folks - ducksface, JamieGeek, Bob Dennan etc who own the same rig will introduce themselves. They're a great bunch and provide lots of help.

I'd start with the following link. I gentleman by the name of Ed Felker wrote an awesome Users Guide for the 24.1 -

https://www.thorforums.com/forums/f3...nual-4961.html

I'm also happy to assist also from my limited but rapidly growing knowledge base.

Welcome to the forum! Before you go to pick it up, print out a PDI checklist (pre-delivery inspection). There is a good one on this site: https://www.rvwiththetanners.com/pre...ery-inspection

Ask if it is OK to video your walk-through. You'll appreciate that later when you are trying to remember what was said.

You'll find folks at every campground who will help you, too. You're headed for some great adventures!

You always get served first at the Buffet Table...
Truthfully; They seem to offer stuff that seems useful:
Extended warranties, and trip planning guides come to mind the quickest.
Oh! You also get more discounts at the CW Stores...

I composed a few points recently (as an absolute newbie) of some lessons I've learned or mistakes I've made. Super basic but hopefully someone can pull a nugget from the list or add something to it.
The post didn't get much traction but I'm hoping it'll be augmented to be a useful tool.

Congrats!

I am also a new owner of a 24.1 Vegas. I found the manual incredibly helpful. The only issue I have had so far is the panelling separated near the stove. I also had a local shop install the safe-T spring and larger shocks. The rig rides much better and is easier to drive. Otherwise, its a great rig so far.

In the 2020 Vegas, does the battery On/Off switch by the door kill everything, including the propane? Is that the same as the Store/Use switch in other models? Probably need to use that when refueling, no? Thanks everyone!!!!☺

The store/use switch (master power on some) ONLY disconnects the house batteries from the power center (the main fuse panel). It doesn't not effect anything powered by the chassis battery, so you can safely drive the coach without any house batteries.

When refueling, you should only to shut down anything that might produce a flame (water-heater, generator, furnace, RV fridge, engine, etc). Most just take their chances and just leave the engine running to keep the passengers cool.

Excellent info..thanks! Interesting dichotomy .. leave the engine to keep them cool, or accidentally incinerate them....I'll play it safe and let them sweat!!

Good for you. Before any big trips, take it for an overnight or two to get the hang of setting up, draining tanks, running the systems, furnace, air cond, generator....all of it. Don't let any stone unturned and use the warranty for as long as you have it. Watch for roof leaks....they are not covered for the entire year....in fact, only months.

Just to let you know make sure you always have a toolbox handy. You will find loose items . Make sure you go through your RV from under the chassis to all cabinets and access areas looking for debris, loose items, leaks. Not all doom and gloom just part of RV'ing. Enjoy.
