Hello my husband and myself are new to forums but not to the RV world. Just purchased a Thor ACE 30.1 2015. A few months back we purchased a Forest River 2016 (what a mistake) we got a real lemon. Went to Thor and they took it in on a trade. What a difference. THis is our first brand new motorhome always bought used before. We are hunters & fishermen. Love our new ACE. We are from Pennsylvania and just retired and plan on using our RV a lot more.

Welcome! We also have a new 30.1. This is our 1st motorhome and we are having a great time learning as we go along, both from our experience and the combined experience of the members here!

Another new owner. So far just a generator problem that Cummings took care of.

Monday I am having a second A/C installed in the front. Need it here in TX heat!

Dave, just curious, what will the impact be on the 30 amp system? It would seem to me that running 2 a/c units should just about use up the available amps...

Wow, that Forest river must have been a doosy! Good luck as the forum here is filled with quality control issues as well!

It's always been my thought you needed 50 amp to run two A/C units
at the same time?

That is correct! The way Camping World is doing it is adding a second 30 amp cord to the back of the coach were the original one is. I will have to use two 30 amp cords and a 50 amp double converter to two 30 amp plugs. Not the way I would have done it!!

I would have changed the 30 amp plug on the rear of coach to a 50 amp and used the unused leg of the 110 circuit to do a straight pass to the new A/C with it's own 20 amp breaker in the circuit. This would eliminate the need for new transfer switch, breaker panel and so forth for 50 amp upgrade in coach.

Any other way too run two at the same time you be to costly. And to run two on generator while driving would be way to costly!!

Hope this makes sense!

Dave

P.S. Your Thor ACE is prewired for a second A/C in the bedroom ceiling. At least the 2016 is. I am having the second one put in the front because this is were the most activity is during the day while camping. At night it is cool enough to run just the rear one. Cost a little under 2,000 with 15,000 btu unit.

My way if I were younger about little less then a 1,000. DIY!

Welcome to the forum! I have the same issue in my travels, NEED MORE AIR. I travel with two Giant Breeds (Saint and BullMastiff) and on hot days it is really hard to keep the coach cool.
