George Washington bridge

We have a class C RV and would like to visit mystic Ct from central NJ. Can we drive across the George Washington Bridge? Cost? Is there another option?

Google says the preferred route uses the Cuomo bridge, not the GW bridge.

George Washington Bridge

Stay away from the GW and the Cross Bronx Expressway!! Did this trip last month on the way up to Massachusetts and took the New Cuomo bridge. Rd is pretty decent until to get to the RT 95 merge. That part is like the back side of the moon with all the construction, be sure to go slow. Once on 95 it’s pretty smooth sailing northbound thru Connecticut.

Avoid the traffic of NYC: it's about as fun as a colonoscopy without the anesthesia.

If you want a relaxed drive go up to Newburgh and across to middletown over to Mystic.

Yes... Take Route 84.
But you start near Middletown, and head East toward Newburgh.

Now I see...
There's a Middletown, NY that is about 20 miles West of Newburgh also...
So... get to the Middletown of your choice, and then head in the proper direction!

If you make the mistake and are heading into the George Washington Bridge or the tunnel, stay way to the left not to get caught and forced by heavy traffic that will not let you change lanes into the tunnel line. DON'T ASK ME WHY I KNOW! Because you will take your life into your hands crossing after the toll booth in front of all traffic to get around and onto the bridge. That is a very sharp right in front of all lanes that you will be 90 degeese to. You don't ever, and I mean ever want to do that! Had a Class C and a tow dolly. The gal at the bridge was surprised that we made it alive and call back to the tunnel toll taker to tell her we actually made it! This was our first trip to the east and did not know about forums to get advice.

No one in their right mind tries to cross the GW in a RV. Choose a different route.

GW Tolls are nuts going North. NJ turnpike isnt cheap. Early morning 11pm to 3am is not bad but just dont break down.

Best to go around. Crossed the GW many times for years. Pretty much sucks.

Absolutely agree. Daughter used to live in the Bronx and moved to Yonkers. Worst part of the run from DE to NY.

She lived in the Bronx, and moved to Yonkers?
That's like ordering roadkill for lunch... and getting haggis!

Bob, you are misinformed. Yonkers is less than half the crime rate than the Bronx and near equal to US statistics. If you need to live near the city Yonkers is one of the better areas.

I'm actually pretty aware of the mess down there.
Let's put it this way: "Yonkers is the dandelion growing at the top of the New York City manure pile."
Haggis is an upgrade from roadkill...

I agree, but I did not know at the time and did not even know about forms to ask. The bridge was ok since there was very light wind. Now I will take that bridge over going through the Bronx! That road is totally nuts, super narrow, and has huge creators! Never do that again except in a military tank.

Use an Abrams: they've got the firepower to take care of that pesky traffic...

Because I needed to drive right after my procedure, I elected to do it w/o anaesthesia, which the Dr was ok with, and I found it quite interesting to watch the whole thing (on a large screen monitor). The only delay I had was the releasing nurse would not let me go until I farted.

Without anesthesia?
They'd have to buy me dinner and drinks first.
