Vegas gas mileage

I have a 24.1 and over 300 highway miles I averaged 13.5 mpg. Year is 2017 with 2200 miles on odometer. Cruising between 60 and 65 level roads. I hardly expected mileage over 10. Anyone else have similar results?

Note no winds to speak of

10.8 is the best average that I have seen on the scan gauge in my 2016 Vegas.

Without toad...10 sometimes a little better...sometimes a little lower. With jeep in tow...8.5 to 9. We take readings and calculate with every fueling.

2500 miles on our Axis and I am pleased with our gas milage. 11.5 on the last tank, 60 miles per hour and no wind.

2016 24.1 with 120 lbs of motorized bikes on rack doing 70 this last trip from NC to Ga and back, no wind ....averaged 11.2
Have seen 12mpg with lighter loads but I generally expect at least 10 plus
Happy trails

Do any of these excellent results include any generator use? Would also assume no towing -- is that correct?

It would be great to identify differences between those getting 10+ and those in the 8 to 9 range.

Me too! (My guess is the new transmission allowing a lower gearing at higher speeds.)

Jamie, there is very little difference in top overdrive gear ratio between the 5- and 6-speed transmissions, although the new 6R140 is reportedly slightly more efficient for other reasons. However, I can't see anything that would explain 20% or greater MPG improvement.

Final gear ratio could make a bigger difference since in theory it could vary from 4:10 to 4:56, but even that is unlikely to result in such large MPG improvement. I expect all newer E-450s have the 4:56 gears anyway.

A compact Class A that could deliver 12 MPG consistently on the highway would be pretty nice.

The wind and terrain seems to affect my mpg the most. We usually drive around 60 mph most times with no toad and get a little better than 10 mpg more or less.
A year or so ago though, we had a strong tail wind in high desert and got an unbelievable mpg. So much so, that my wife took a second look at the gas slip and recal'd the mpg. With head winds of course, which seems like most of the time, just the opposite occurs.

Regarding gas milage, I would like to solicit opinions on Octane. On our trip out west we saw a lot of stations offering 85 octane. Obviously cheaper, OK to use or not?

Cool Gas MPG Vegas

I have over 14,000 miles on our Vegas and we have recorded up to 11.5 mpg and down to 10 when pulling our dolly. Data used during our 6,400 mile trip to Portland Oregon and shorter trips not pulling. The fuel used is 87 octane and never used anything higher. Wonder if higher octane would help.
Where you using higher octane when you recorded 14.5 mpg?

I find that this is very true. I have a scan gauge in my Vegas and I keep a pretty good eye on it basically out of curiosity.
I can tell you that according to that gauge hills and headwinds cause mileage to take a big hit.
My best mileage was under 65 mph , no generator, not towing and no wind.
That's a big old loaf of bread that we are pushing down the road ! But the Vegas / Axis seem to be pretty slick areodynamically speaking.
Compared to the Chevy based super C I used to drive it is much quieter at speed with much less wind noise.

Pete

I have used it and didn't notice anything but it was for local driving around town mostly and not highway miles. And only a quarter of a tank top off.

I have seen about 10.6 on the open flat road. Driving through the mountains, it has gone as low as 8.5. I try to drive at 55-60MPH to help the milage.

I was wishing I could get mileage you guys are talking about. My excursions start in NW new Jersey, hills in every direction. my 2017 Outlaw class c (e450) has only seen 8mpg + /-. That's no towing with a Harley dresser (900lbs) in the garage.

I'd expect around 8 MPG from a heavier and larger Class C. Class Cs should be less aerodynamic than As which doesn't help. I've only averaged in range of 8-1/2 MPG on long road trips when driving the Thor 28A Class C, which is about same size and weight.

I'd like to see a manufacturer build a small Class A a little larger than a Class B to see what kind of fuel economy they could achieve. For now it seems fuel economy isn't a high priority.
