Furnace Running Without Gas

Hi everyone.

We were up at the trailer last week and my wife thinks she may have left the switch to the thermostat on and it was set at about 73 degrees! I turn the gas outside before we left as I always do! It's getting cooler out and I think the furnace will come on/off without the gas! Anyone know if this could damage the furnace? Thank you in advance!

Yes and yes, if you left the power on in the coach. If you turned the 12V power off, there will be no power to the furnace. With power on, The furnace will come on when the temp gets below 73 degrees and run until it warms to over 73 degrees. It will probably damage the igniter and will not do good thing to your furnace fan.

Thanks, I better head up and check it out! Power is always on and the gas was off! I'll go and check on it tomorrow and see if it puts any heat out!

If it has 12 VDC but no propane it will go through 3 "try to light" cycles and then error out. In most cases it will need to be reset either at the furnace itself or at the thermostat by turning it off, then on again, in order to restart the lighting cycle again.. There may be some thermostats that will automatically reset the thermostat after some time delay.

Okay, I'll keep my fingers crossed and have a look and hope there wasn't any damages to the ignitor or fan!

In our Landmark that was the case

Designed that way in the event you run out of propane
