Smile Thor Vegas stabilization

Hi Vegas & Axis owners,

Do any of you use jacks to stabilize your rig camping? Manual does not suggest or even mention the use of jacks. There is a comment about raising the frame when putting in long term storage. Keeping load off tires.

Any help or suggestions out there? If you do use jacks I would entertain jack point locations other than jack points suggested for tire changing.

Thankyou

Angelo & Diane

By the way, just drove 170 miles on interstate 65 and those semi's hardly had an effect on driving. No more than semi driving by my SUV. White knuckle less driving

We have a Thor Axis 25.1 (2015). We just got back from a 4,300 mile trip to Yellowstone via Duluth, Mn.(we live in Georgia). We never have used jacks to stabilize the MH because we never noticed any rock or roll while camping.
The problem we had was driving through the Plains of the Dakotas and the wind blowing us all over the road. I am not happy with the suspension system of this Ford chassis. Have you up graded you suspension on your Vegas?

Footloose there are tons of threads around here discussing Axis/Vegas handling mods and results (like this one: http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f3/...egas-1733.html and this one http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f27...-3-go-820.html and this one talking about alignments http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f8/...lved-1454.html )

We had jacks on our Class A, and had them put on our new 25.2 before we picked it up. They aren't worth the money for some folks, but worth it for us.

DW and I have different sleep patterns, and want the stability. Plus, there is the leveling factor. We only spend about 1/3 of our nights at campgrounds, the rest in friends or family's driveways, WMrt or CrackrBarrl. We like being level, or at least closer to level. I'm happy

Another factor for us is that we intend to own this coach for a long time. We know we may not recover much, if any, of the expense for the jacks. Spread over enough nights, the jacks will be a good value for us.

Mr Sunshine:

What leveling system do you have on your Vegas? Who installed it?

Thanks.

I have HWH swing-down hydraulic jacks installed. It's been a learning experience as the dealer had never installed this system on a 24.1 Vegas. Works great most of the time, but found that some campsites have ruts that make the Vegas sit even lower to the ground. In a few cases the swing-down jack would not be able to swing because they would hit the ground too soon. I fixed the problem (and added some road handling stability) by installing SuperSprings in the rear. SuperSprings are an additional leaf that is adjustable to raise the rear. I raised it about 1 ½" and now the jacks work great. It also is less prone to rocking although I think the RoadMaster sway bar and Koni shocks helped even more.
