Those of you that have read my post "
Transfer Switch Meltdown", will appreciate this. First off, kudo's to Thor. They shipped me a new transfer switch and it arrived in two days. They told me the parts department was closed and would return to work Jan. 2 so the switch wouldn't go out till then. Somebody in customer service must have felt bad for me.
Anyhow, I understand the problem now. Upon inspecting the new switch in the box, the pig tails are pre stripped, leaving the technician to merely pull the insulation off at the pre-cut end and then try to twist the wires together and use a wire nut for fastening, followed by a wrap or two of electrical tape. The problem really becomes obvious when you realize the pig tails were pre stripped perfectly for butt connectors. There is not enough bare wire to simply do a quick twist followed by a wire nut and tape. So my solution to the replacement is butt connectors or if enough slack is available, direct connect with crimp on eyelet connectors.
