Unhappy 2023 Thor Palazzo Radio Dis-Continued

Greetings all,
I have a 2023 Thor Palazzo in which the Dash Radio has completely stopped working (no blind spot, rear camera or radio functions). It's covered under my one-year warranty period. But it's now been about three weeks at an Authorized Repair facility (for radio and other repairs), and their troubleshooting determined that I need a new radio. However, the Radio according to Thor (their claim) is "DISCONTINUED" and requires different mounting and wiring for the newer radio model. Anyone else have or had this issue? If so, what was the outcome of your Radio Troubles?

A new radio should come with its own mounting frame. The last 2 that I replaced fit into the OEM mounting. The wiring wasn't a plug in but with schematics for the old and new it was easy to match the colered wires.

I installed a Kenwood radio/CD with no video and added a 7 inch monitor on the dash for the rear and mirror cam. It was even easier than I expected.

Thanks Mr Sunshine, but I’m still under warranty so it’s up to them to figure it out.

You asked the question. I thought maybe my unhelpful answer might prompt someone with a better one. But I don't think so now.

Your response was a good one and I would even consider it if the radio failure happened outside of my warranty period. I just wanted to know if this has maybe happened to someone else.

Thor and the repair facility will work it out.

It happened to me with the Challenger. Replaced once, broke again and replaced. Broke again and the radio was discontinued and Thor had the dealer install an upgraded radio.

Dealer and Thor worked it out under warranty. As a note, my dealer was good at the time. Shortly after this they sold out to Camping World and went down the crapper.

I assume you have the Axxera radio? The mounting is only two screws into the dash so just about any radio would work. These radios are extremely inexpensive in both price and performance so I would lobby for something other than the Axxera.

Thor radio/camera problem

Had the same problem a year ago on my 2022 Palazzo. Went to dealer and all he'd did was somehow go to settings on radio, there he found the radioo/ camera and the whole deal. Took about 5 minutes. Wish I could remember exactly what he did so I could tell you, but was an easy fix

As said in above post, your dealer and THOR will work things out. I have a 2013 and only use the dash radio for the rear camera. The OEM radio is junk.

Thanks MLP, I’m finding this out the hard way. I picked up my coach after having some issues repaired which also included a radio power malfunction , and the side cameras STILL DIDN’T WORK. I’m becoming more and more disappointed in Thor because we as owners have to endure these kinds of issues.

Remember that THOR as well as all manufactures are systems companies. They purchase everything from other manufactures. They just put the systems together. Almost all purchase from the lowest bidder. Get the best price on a XX size TV and purchase a year or more worth. Some are close out and not manufactured anymore. Why do they all do this, well it is to keep the purchase price low. They all compete against one another with price not the best reliable stuff. Want better, get a custom rig, but I don't live in that income level. So I fix and replace as I go.

As a rig goes, the Plazzo is an entry level diesel pusher. The chassis, engine, and transmission are high quality. So are most of the other basic electronics. Now the microwave, TV's, radio..... I found that I did not like the way it drove in wind and rocked like a swing going out of a driveway. The front suspension would bottom out when going over pot holes. I change the shocks to Koni, changed the rear anti sway bar to a larger one, added air bag isolators so the left or right side cannot dump across, an got the front end aligned. Then added and air horn. That wimpy junk of a horn could not be heard beyond two feet! Other than the slide problem, we are happy campers. Much cheaper than spending on a much more expensive rig.
