27K Under-bed Appliance Drawer

We recently decided there had to be a better way to store our larger kitchen appliances than just "under the king bed" in our 2015 Windsport 27K. It was decided by my DW that under the bed is where they would remain and that it was my job to figure out how to make them easier to reach, especially when the slide is in. After a little discussion it was decided that a large drawer would be "nice". So after a little investigating this is what we came up with;

1) Drilled a series of small hole on the inside of the under bed storage compartment to determine where the framing was.

2) Cut out a 16"wide x 12"high opening. The opening starts about 3" right of the Gas Detector and at the floor level of the storage area. I saved the pieces of paneling to use for the center panel of the access door I would make. Once the cut out was made I reinforced the opening by gluing wood in between the paneling.

3) Made a 15 1/2" x 32" box that slides into the opening. Also made a 6" high guide to keep the drawer straight and to keep other items form getting in the way. The final piece was to make a door from molding and a the paneling and attach it with a piano hinge across the bottom.

With the slide out the drawer can be fully removed, with the slide in the drawer can be pulled out about half way.
