Is Ford doing away with their Ranger pick ups? Maverick was originally a car back in 1970. The new truck looks very interesting.

The Ranger has been absent in the U.S. market for a while now. The Maverick is it's replacement.

The Ranger has been back on the scene for a couple years now. The manger of our park has had one at least 2 years.
I think either the Ranger or the new Maverick would be a good vehicle to be towed but not a tow vehicle.

Yup Ranger has been around for at least 2 years now. Going to be building the full sized Bronco at the same plant starting about now (I see the Broncos on the road all the time around here).

Yeah, the new Maverick is the smallest of the four Ford pickup choices. The larger ones (Super Duty, F-150, and Ranger) are all RWD body-on-frame based, with AWD and 4WD options), but the Maverick is FWD car based with unitized body design. It’s quite a bit smaller than Ranger in my opinion.

Not surprised Lordstown Motors may fail. It takes so much capital to set up manufacturing, not to mention competition for all-electric pickups will soon become intense. Without a significant dealership system in place, the big boys will make it difficult for start-ups to succeed.

I’m not even sure there is that much demand yet for all-electric pickups. There is some, but how much? Hybrids and plug-in hybrids similar to the Maverick, but larger, offer much more bang-for-the-buck in my opinion.

That's just an orthopedic shoe for one of my feet!
But I'll get another one as soon as Medicare kicks in some money for it!

Maverick: Very interested, especially if it can be towed 4 down or on a dolly, and someone makes a cap for the bed.

I toured Lordstown in High School as part of Engineering Explorers... Really fascinating tour. We got a back-stage look at the robotics and what it took to make the automated welders do their thing.

When I bought my first car, it was a Saturn, in part because the frame was made at Lordstown (and shipped to TN for final assembly).

I really hoped Lordstown Motors would work.

At +/- 200 inches long, the Maverick is about the same length as my 7-passenger minivan. It’s really too large for some who want a 2-door with 6-foot bed, making it even shorter. My old Ranger was probably much shorter than Maverick, but I’d have to look it up to compare.

My "Smartie": 108" in length.
But I can turn a two-car garage into a four-car garage; with just 3 more purchases...

So I could go buy an Isetta, and have the two of them take up about the same amount of space...
Those little bugs are only 90" long.)

The obvious comparison many in the auto industry media have made is to the FWD-based Honda Ridgeline, which also has unibody construction. The Maverick is roughly 5% smaller, but who’s counting.

Over the decades pickups transitioned quite a bit from 2-door regular- to 4-door crew-cab, so adjusting for that general trend, the Maverick actually reminds me of the Ford Ranchero. It too was car based, unibody, not meant to haul or tow much, etc.

I’m a little surprised that Ford didn’t use the Ranchero name, although in today’s world, that could have been a huge mistake.

Drop a 429 into that Ranchero, and you might be onto something...

Ridgeline sells okay and is a good vehicle, within its limits. The obvious difference with the Maverick is that it's a hybrid with (hopefully) decent mileage.

Some folks might not know what an isetta is, so here's a picture.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ign=2021-06-10

The spousal unit wants an isetta 300 as a toad.
Probably not going to happen.
