Yet since September 11th, “Imagine” has emerged as a new national hymn, a strong, quiet counterweight to the institutional psalms and fight songs — “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “God Bless America,” “America the Beautiful” — that have filled the air since the terrorist attacks. In the weeks immediately following September 11th, Lennon’s 1971 recording of “Imagine” soared in requests and airplay at pop and rock stations across the U.S. Many stations also played Neil Young’s majestic rendition of the song on the September 21st telethon America: A Tribute to Heroes.
“If people really believed the sentiments John Lennon expressed in that song, we would have had revolution in this country "(some 'not lulled by a melody' grunge drummer)
Lennon, who died in 1980, would have appreciated the honor and irony of his song’s resurgence.
Lennon himself described “Imagine” as “virtually the Communist Manifesto, even though I am not particularly a communist and I do not belong to any movement…. But because it is sugarcoated, it is accepted.” “Now I understand what you have to do,” Lennon noted. “Put your political message across with a little honey."
Above is from Rolling Stone interviews and a dozen other substantiated sources.
Not particularly an incredibly wealthy communist.
A generation steered by the jesters we pay to entertain us.
They are in the streets, enacting the songs lyrics.

I can only hope that we can rally as one strong united country just as we did after that horrible day without the tremendous lose of lives to trigger it.
I personally am sick & tired of all the ridiculous behavior of people nowadays & if playing John Lennon's song could ease that play it every hour on every radio station.
I M A G I N E!!!!!!

Imagine the
subliminal indoctrination.
Imagine the
'I don't know why I accept this, but I do'
Imagine
Not having to explain nor be responsible for your actions.
Imagine taking the time to analyze a statement.
Imagine the melody missing and only the words there.
Then extrapolate.
I put candy coating on a poison pill
His own words. His. Very. Own. Words...and yet....

His song wishes for a world without heaven, in other words, no God. His beliefs were steeped in Marxism and Buddhism. I'm sorry he died the way he did, but I certainly didn't like his politics.

He didn't follow Buddhism.
His money driven propaganda machine makes it seem that way for those who need to find a good side to a, in his words correctly interpreted, very well versed subversive.
In this day and age with manipulating media involvement in all things, it should be exxxxtrrreammmllllyyyy obvious how this type of guy gets a pass.
He wrote catchy tunes. Outside of this singular talent his opinion has no more weight than my butchers friends great aunt.
You've been snowed.

Sometimes a good song is just that: a good song.
Given how many people like his music, including that song, and how few are inclined to support Marxism, it clearly is just a good song.

I interpret his “no heaven” as being more about not having religion, not necessarily about his personal belief in God. In the context of the song, I always assumed he was implying differences in religion led to lack of peace (i.e. — wars). Historically that often held true on the surface, although I’m not sure that’s at the core of most wars.
