I hesitate to get into this because I'm flamed almost every time I post. But, I'm not really sure what you're trying to solve. If your tank is 5/8 empty, it will hold 5/8 times 41 pounds to arrive at 25.6 pounds of fuel. You were figuring 5/8's of 25 pounds and got 15; I didn't get that. Also, 5/8 times the 9.6 gallons full equals 6 gallons, which is on target with the 5.7 gallons you received. Everything checks out.....unless I'm misinterpreting.

Math error

Your problem is you were multiplying by 5/8. You should have been dividing by 5/8. Then everything is within tolerance of consistent.

So if I was taking a test in you classroom, and answered every question with "Bacon": would I get an A÷, or a trip to the Principal's office?

No problem.......on the test I'd reply "see you next year!" The high school I taught at required 3 years of math to graduate......although I usually taught the kids no one else wanted......like the Football players.
I see your "Pigs Flying" avatar.....I took a college logic/reasoning course and it was on "Pigs flying" believe it or not. The Professor wrote a book on it. If.... Then statements. Abstract but I taught some of it in a college algebra class. "Bacon" would have been an answer in Home Ec!

But if the tank's capacity is 41 pounds (9.6 gallons): that's close enough to call it a 10 pound tank.
Love it. Sure you meant 10 gallon. Way too much figuring. Just tell the guy at the filling station fill it up and be happy
