any one else here ever headed down the road with just a bed roll???

I'm really digging the rv stuff, as I've pretty much always had one for the last 50yrs.but... I remember my first rv... no ac and no generator... but I had a blasting 8 track that sported credence clear water, and dubbie bros... plus added a little santanna for the new pick up ladies now and then..livin the life for sure... up and down the coast... park where you want...surfin. workin, and pleasing the ladies...and for fun scootin down to ocean side with a bed roll and a pair of jean on the ol scooter..people were easy... pretty much no rules.. and no time to be there... if it's fun …. you stayed... if not moved on...met a whole world of cool people just on the west coast....has it really changed that much,... the full timers... the long as it get me to the next spot.....cool!!! but I read stuff like.... my cabinet handles don't line up just right...really...well. take all the doors off and lets have a beer by the camp fire when we burn them..guess what I'm try'n to say is... come on people... to be so cridical of the way things are done... keep in mind you could be using your fingers as a rake to smooth out a spot for your bed roll.... don't like what they did or how.... fix it yourself... and when your done tell your wife to come look how you made it better,.... and tell her to make you a sandwich and bring a beer,,,

I have headed down the road with just a bedroll, just me and my old school Harley, but my body doesn't do as well now a days on the un-cushioned ground.
So now needing at least an air mattress, I need to pull a small trailer, with all my gear strapped down, including cooking wares, food, and water.
Even that is taxing any more.

So now up to a class C toy hauler, thinking I may still do it the old way.

But, like other folks, you spend good money for the extra luxuries, and you would think you'd want them to work right.
So what is wrong with that?

And, what is wrong with asking for knowledge to do it yourself with things that go into err?
I mean, I like to tinker, save money vs shop labor, plus learn what nots if something happens down the road, and maybe been there and know where to look.

I don't see anywhere, in this forum, where folks are just bickering, as you seem to suggest.

So, bring your chair over to our campfire, chill out some, smoke a doobie if you want (I am so past that, but don't care if you do), enjoy, we are all out there for the good life, see you down the road...

hmmm....might be a new name for the Chateau...."Bed Roll". I'll see you at the beach tonight with my "Bed Roll"... Youth was wonderful...my generation invented the "Skate Board" with a pair of Kingston Skates, a few nails and a piece of plywood. Pot had a nice golden color...it was from Columbia...not California. My "RV" was a 1968 Chevy Van...no A/C but did had shag carpet. The girls burned bras, not cabinetry. I learned through trial and error (over too many years), the value of a great wife. These days, I don't "tell her to do anything"...I'm the one that makes her the sandwich and bring it to her with a beer.

How about this: for a minimalist approach?

At 1:38...the precise moment he turned it onto a bed, I heard something "howling" off in the background. Was that a "Lot Lizard" or an Owl?

I pretty much post what I've read here, some one said that's how to lighten a coach for travel,... take all the doors offand put curtains to make it lighter..e used to do that back in the 60's to the stick house...I come here for help and ideas , and try to help others..I try to fix stuff myself, takes too long to take it in for repairs..then it comes back with two new things broke... if you ever get it back..no more Harleys for me,but I gotta say this, I've slept in a grass field that was more comfortable than the Denver mattress in my new coach...

Yeah Gritz, & my big brothers stole my skates to make their first one in 1967 L.A., & I'm still pissed at them, lol!!!

But I understand the sentiment he's expressin, our whole generation probably does (yes, I'm at the tail end of the Boomers). We're not Millenials whining in the basement (no offense to the millenials out here who surely break that mold!).

I'm still a bit uncomfortable applyin the word "campin" to this house on wheels. Until I bought this, as late as this past summer, I was still packin my sheis in a ruck on my back to camp (all this past summer in the unending rain & mud!). Before that, campin generally meant deployments or field exercises. But as a young teen it did mean jus a bedroll & my motorcycle (sure beat muckin out my dad's pig farrowin barn!).

Now, despite bein at the tail end of the Boomers (as in Baby, not my bros of nuclear submariner life!), I've got to admit I'm gettin too old for that, I've torn the sheis outta myself mor than most girls my age as a medic playin w/the big boys in mech infantry & cav. My rig is jus my work around for those realities, bc I still crave freedom & adventure.

I'm finding I like havin a house on wheels to base my adventures from. I can make temporary retreats, r&r, & refill my ever needed oil can (lotsa naproxm sodium for this girl tinman!) to address all my metal body part replacements.

I think maybe that's why so many of us are out here at my age & up, bc we haven't forgotten the freedom of bedrolls - we've just adapted new tactics to carry on...[emoji39]

Once your RV costs as much as a house: it's called "Glamping"!

Yeah, I think I just saw my 1st example. Nice couple jus pulled in to the fam camp w/an English Bully named "Dumpster" (it fit him). They said they're on their 1st trip, both retired 3 wks ago, they have a brand new Entegra Inspire w/a shiny custom tribal tatoo lookin paint job & a toad w/a matchin custom paint job, & even the dog's digs (he gets his own personal house w/fenced yard!) that they had jus pulled out had a matchin paint job. I so wanted to take a pix (my sis would luv it), but didn't think that would go over too well w/them. That dog is pure royalty, despite his humble name...
