Anybody happy with their Class C Thor Motor Coach?

After reading a lot of the posts and reviews is seems to me that there are a lot of unhappy Thor Motor Coach owners. My concern as a guy who has a deposit on a 2021 Thor Motor Coach Quantum Sprinter KM24 purchasing from Motor Home Specialist in Texas set to be delivered in late October. We chose the Quantum Sprinter because we have friends that purchased a used 2018 Quantum Sprinter and we liked the 24 ft floor plan and the better mileage that the Sprinter offers, they seem to be happy with it as well.

I did a lot of searching for a similar RV through our local dealers and RV trader and could not find any near our home. When I ran across one with the floor plan we wanted on the Sprinter chassis it had a great price and was new so we called and yes it just sold, but they had one just like it on order so we decided to go for it. MHS was happy to take my non refundable deposit. Then as I started to dig into the features of the Mercedes Sprinter manual I discovered that many of the safety features of the Sprinter were not included in ours, long story short I thought maybe I should upgrade to a Tiburon for another 12k but our salesman through a monkey wrench in that idea saying that I would still lose my deposit, even though I wanted to buy a "better" one from them. I thought about going to the sales manager to see if I could work a deal but my wife convinced me we should just move forward with this one. Then I made the mistake to start reading reviews about Thors and the reviews make me think we're blowing 100k on what a lot of people seem to think they suck, and because MHS wouldn't work with me on buying a "better" one that the dealer sucks too. So my question is, are there any HAPPY Thor Motor Coach class C owners out there?

I’m happy with my 2017 Chateau Class C. 24 feet makes it easy to camp at most state and national parks. The coach itself isn’t the best quality, need to be gentle on her overall. Most trouble I’ve had is with the water pump because tank was never cleaned after initial installation, so small plastic fibers always jam up my pump about every 6 months. The Ford V-10 engine is great. The coach is definitely not the best quality, but I love her size, one slide and no electric stairs.

Some people aren't happy unless they aren't happy and they make a hobby of telling everyone their shortcomings and wear their lack of diligence as a badge of some sort of 'I did soooo bad and I take no responsibility' honor.

Rvchecklist is an android app with 287 check points for pre delivery.

If you mean unhappy like:
I'm waiting two months for an appointment to have a screw tightened on the windshield shade.
I have ten problems that could be fixed in 30 minutes but I refuse to list them on this forum.
I washed the rv with the wrong stuff, it was fixed easily but I'm selling it because because.
The salesman didn't tell me it was illegal for my dog to ride on the dash so I'm suing.

If you've read the bad reviews you've read the good reviews also.
Maybe you just need a reason to say no? Cold feet?

Post links to three threads here which have made you think this way. Give us a chance to confirm or discredit them.

Okay let me see if I cut through the chase on this one.

1. How much is your deposit?
2. When you paid the Non Refundable Deposit, did you know it was non refundable?
3. Would you rather lose $1,000 or $100,000
4. Can't believe MHS will not sell new coach for $111k? (Assuming the ask right now is $112k?
5. Are you or were you going to pay deposit for 2nd RV?
6. What Safety features are missing?
7. You state that after reading reviews that made you believe Thor & Dealer suck, isn't that changing your mind? You have right to change your mind as long as you are willing to forgo your deposit.

When MHSRV takes a deposit they take that RV off the market. They have the deposit as insurance for people may change their mind.

I have dealt with MHSRV, and I know under right circumstance they will return a deposit, but you have stated no reason to actually get a refund? Somehow, I believe there is more. If you buy the other coach for the $112k and when deal is done, I bet you may have more leverage? But I get back to how much of a deposit did you actually pay?

You mean like after 10 months of an otherwise perfect RV, I am ready to sue Winnebago because while reading through the manual one night I saw where an Awning Emergency Retract Strap was listed as part included with the RV. but I did NOT get one!!!! and so far two Dealers don't even know what the part is

I happy to be so unhappy , I need to find that lawyer that guy had so I can return my RV for 75 cents on the dollar

I have had to cancel all my trips because if I go on family vacation, and my awning won't retract, I have no emergency way to get it back in

2019 Thor compass 24 tf sprinter diesel

I was not at first, had a few problems. But learned alot about the vehicle. I solved the coach issues myself along with Thor sending me parts. Mercedes issues were handled at the MB dealer.
I was ready to sell it, give it back, go to court, but after resolving the problems turned out to be a great RV. Great mpg 15-16, turbo diesel no problem with power, comfortable, great for a couple traveling USA. Purchased on sale,

That sounds like a “yuuuge” law suit
Maybe even class action.

BTW...I love my Thor, works as expected.

We're on our 3rd and last coach, all different manufacturers, and ALL had teething issues in the beginning. If you can envision the "glass half-full" instead of empty, you'll see tremendous positives about your purchase!
Just be prepared to have your dealer fix some things under warranty because no coach is perfect, regardless of manufacturer or price.

We are very happy with our class c quantum. There were a couple of minor things the dealer had to fix, but everything has been fine since. As was stated before, no brand of coach is perfect.

Welcome to the Forum!
You have to realize that unhappy people like to complain to everyone about the perceived injustices in their lives... The happy ones are too busy camping to complain...
Having said that: We were very happy with our Outlaw 29-H... But it took us a while to get to that place.

I am on my 2nd Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chassis based motor home. I went from a Class B Winnebago ERA to a Class C Thor Siesta. There was a learning curve with both motor homes. Much less for me with the Thor. We are enjoying every trip. Thor was good to me and when under fully warranty sent me any part I needed to replace no questions asked. Would I go with another Thor in the future? Yes I would. All manufactures have initial issues. The key is to find a trusted dealership that will work with you. It is not like a car deal or dealership. It is an adventure with it's ups and downs.

For the record, we did not buy a Thor although we tried very hard twice. We ended up with a 2019 Winnebago 29VE Sunstar (In my book it was / has been the "Perfect" coach)

But for the question "Would I buy a Thor/", the answer is "Yes"

I would not give Dealer ANY money on ANY coach from ANY Mfg unless I was 100% certain that if it passed my PDI; I would buy. Some dealers will press you out of fear it could be sold which is true, but don't gamble unless you are willing to lose every penny you put on the table.

For the record #2. The two Thors we did not buy had nothing to do with Thor Motor Coach manufacturing. All of the issues noted were defects that occurred on Dealer's lot that I chose to not buy a brand new Coach with; despite that they may possibly be somehow fixed.

New is new; but I wanted Brand New
"Quality and Perfectionism is in the eyes of the beholder"

To the OP

If you are having any 2nd thoughts about the other coach.... Go get that Tiburon... Make sure you buy what you want, not what someone is trying to sell you.

Do you know what you want? The Tiburon is another Thor Class C on a MB chassis.

Maybe you should walk away and determine what you want before you buy anything.

As to Thor in general, for every disgruntled owner posting anywhere there are 50 or more satisfied owners posting nowhere.

Good luck.

To choose between a Thor Class C, and nothing, I'd certainly buy it again. I know it seems like a lot of money, but to get into something that's built/assembled in a way that removes a lot of the issues, you're going to spend twice as much. Even then, things are going to go wrong because of the inherent nature of the beast.

I spent the majority of the weekend installing captive mounts for wire looms, rerouting cables/tubes, and correcting sloppy installations, which luckily I enjoy doing. One positive of this is that I'm getting to know it inside out, so when issues arise, I feel more prepared to deal with them

I don't have a Thor class c but would not buy another Thor motorhome. The materials and workmanship of Thor products is far below that of Tiffin or Winnebago. We are in the process of downsizing from our Hurricane class a to a Sprinter based class c. We have walked thru coaches from all three manufacturers and the Thor one is definitely the lowest quality. Yes, Thor is the least expensive, but it shows and the few extra dollars for a Winnie or Tiffin are definitely worth it.

This is what allows a Thor to be a kit.
I'm sure you're not interested in my $280 cedar closet upgrade and I'm not interested in a pricey $1,100 radio when the coach has a 30 to 70 dB base background.

Use the tiffan/thor money differential and customize your coach.
Many many of us are..
There isn't a single tiffan exclusive item which couldn't have been added to your Thor prior to delivery.
4wd, redo the drivers side to exclude the slide, change out a wall, add a macerator toilet or bidet... Yup.

And to say Thor isn't up to the task might burn a butt or two with the DRV and other high end Thor owners.

Yes, you are correct. But you would have to completely gut a Thor and redo with quality materials to equal the initial quality of a Winnie or Tiffin. Just skip the hassle and expense and buy a higher quality coach. Upgrading a Thor is like lipstick on a pig. It might be pretty, but it's still a pig.

I will actually answer your question. Yes extremely happy with my 2016 35SK with the 6.7 Turbo diesel. IMHO, I would NEVER by a coach off the lot, just like I wouldnt buy a boat from a dealer. Let the first owner shake it out just like mine did. I paid no sales tax, however much like CBACH, I enjoy turning wrenches and tinkering on the coach just like my sailboat. I take panels off and see what is behind them. I run water and electrical so I know where things are. I own a voltmeter and a drill and a fairly mechanical eye. and I know how to use them. I listen to the coach on the road and not the radio.

Just IMHO. Love my coach. Moab and Sedona in november. Cant wait. She is ready.

Cheers

Speaking from my perspective My first purchase was Winnebago ERA Class B back in 2015. It was a brand new 2016 model and I was the first owner. I too went with the name Winnebago. That was my mistake. Build quality was terrible. Everything you hear about from new owners was true for me. It was a very frustrating time. Moving forward to 2018, I traded it in for a brand new Thor Class C. It was night and day. The Thor had very minor issues as compared to the Winnebago. A big factor was also finding the right dealership. The first dealership was extremely difficult to deal with. Now I have a good dealership that understands me and I understand them. It makes a world of difference.
