What is up with Thor?

There stock is DOWN 61% year to date...

I know that steel got more expensive, labor costs went up. But is just keeps sinking. Maybe there is a boat division in the works to save there investors.

Any thoughts??

RV industry as a whole isn’t doing great at present. Stocks are often priced based on anticipated future growth, and right now growth doesn’t look good.

Industry marketing is partly responsible in my opinion. Larger and more luxurious RVs built inexpensively sold very well with large profit margins, but it’s not sustainable in my opinion.

Maybe there’s time delay until poor quality personally affects repeat customers?

We see that trend here in this forum all the time. Those not affected by quality issues dismiss those affected as being unreasonable, or worse yet a bunch of whiners.

Could also be higher interest rates which affects monthly payments since most RVs are financed. I think auto industry is hurting also.

Thor Quality

I have owned 2 Coachmen Motorhomes and a Trail lite by r Vision, and now a Thor.
In my opinion the quality for these Motorhomes are about the same.
I bet if you went to the other manufactures Forum you would see the same issues.
Also most of the aftermarket components are the same, not to mention the Chassis being the same.

The problem is these manufacturers hire unskilled labor, and pay low wages, But that also keeps the price down.

I have had similar issues with all of them, My advantage is that I usually fix or modify things myself.

If we could analyze the stock market well enough to figure this one out: none of us would even care about their stock's prices...
My guess is that since they've been busy buying other brands: their ledgers may not be looking all that favorable right now...

Give it some time...

If you look at it long term it isn't that hard to see that there was a runup the last two years that was probably caused by speculation. Definitely a spike in the long term trend. People trying to make a killing........

So...we invest 100K+ in an RV knowing the value will drop instantly like a lead balloon...then talk about "bad investments"?

If you think that RVs won't drive you crazy enough: just add the Stock Exchange into the mix...

Maybe because of the risk of going global.

Thor has been expanding and gobbling up smaller company's. I look for them to spin off some unprofitable branches in 2019 to drive the price back up. Now might be a good time to buy. At $67.29 today it might be fun to buy a share or 2 just to see where it go's in a year.

Sure MH’s are a good investment! I paid $100k in 2015 for a Thor Hurricane Class A.

Sold it in 2018 with 14k miles for $71k (Bank would only loan $61k so new buyer put up another $10k in cash.

In May I bought a 2012 Dodge Ram 3500 diesel for $40k with 46k miles and last month we went into debt on a new 5th wheel trailer for about $37k.

Got to keep the economy going.

We have owned 5 motorhomes this Thor being the 5th and the other 4 were fine for years that we owned them but we have had this one for not quite 2 years and have had nothing but problems which I have called Thor and talked to them trying to get them to stand behind their product and quality of work but they just told me to turn it in on warranty ! Then I have to argue with warranty people because the inside of the steps pulled away from the door frame and could see day light then warranty said they wouldn't pay for it so called Thor back to see if they would stand behind their work but nope so we had to . I forgot to mention it is a 2016 and we just drive on interstates not like we we drove on dirt rough mountain roads .

I have a 2017 Thor Quantam, and I have no problem with the quality. My problems are all with Dixie RV, who does not want to fix any warranty problems. They do their best to scam you and don't do good work.

The steel is the key....trade sanctions have killed our country's economy. US steel is not selling any better and now foreign steel is up because of tariffs. Gee thanks.

I would like to add this comment and maybe on an inappropriate thread, but my dealer is 100 miles away and 2017 was the last year they sold Thor products. I was told by the dealer that it was due to quality concerns and so many being returned for warranty work. Of course he may have been trying to solicit my interest is a different product line but who really knows. One other comment on Thor, yesterday I had the need to call Thor customer service on a tech issue and the lady I spoke with was very helpful and resolved my issue over the phone. Made my day as I had been trying to resolve the issue for a month or so.

I think simplest answer is usually correct.

RV shipments are expected to total 479,000 in 2018, which is a decline of 5.1% from the peak of 504,600 set in 2017 — one that capped eight successive years of growth.
