Satellite connection

I am trying to connect my satellite dish to my TV inside my RV I connected my dish to the cable input on the outside of RV and connected receiver box to coaxial connector in overhead bin. I cannot get a signal. When I connect the dish directly to the receiver box (bypassing wiring inside Rv) i can get a signal. I checked for continuity between the outside inlet and the coax inside the rv and it is good. I've tried it with signal booster on and off, no difference. Checked all coax connections. They all are good. Why am I losing the signal when I wire through RV.

I think Dish does not allow for splitting the signal so as long as there is a split-er in line somewhere it wont work. You have to home run a connection from the sat to the tv.

That's pretty much it. Cannot have a splitter in line. That grounds the signal. Also turn the power booster OFF. MOST have a direct line=some are different. Good luck

I have used Dish with a splitter. Check to make sure it is a satellite splitter. Also, depending on the satellite dish you use it gets power over the cable you run to it. Many splitters don’t pass the power to the dish so the dish will not move to find the satellites.

It was the splitter. The satellite feed and antenna wire came together in the box with the antenna booster. I disconnected the line from the satellite and ran it through the wall by the overhead compartment. Everything is working now. Thanks for the help troubleshooting.

A cable hook-up in an RV usually has a splitter that blocks DC spikes as they can cause interference in analog cable signals. A sat antenna has a series of computer circuits in the low-noise blocking down converter (LNB) which needs 12 to 21 volts DC to power the LNB. There are three types of splitters. The cheapest block all DC current and cannot be used with sat antennas as they are meant for cable systems. The other two types are similar but the ATT (DirecTV) types will pass a much higher frequency of digital signals from the LNB and is need with current ATT SWM antennas with reverse band capability. With a sat splitter, there will be one coax connection that will pass DC current (red colored) and the the others will not.
