Awning Stops Rolling

Hello, All: So, I've got a 2018 Thor Freedom Elite 24HE. I have trouble with the awning not rolling completely shut when it has rained. Sometimes the motor will just stop when the awning is 2 or 3 feet from fully retracted. If I let it sit for 15 minutes, it will then retract a bit more. Let it sit another 15 or so minutes, repeat, and eventually it fully retracts. I called the mfr (can't remember the name) and was told not to operate the awning on shore power because the motor can overload and overload protection will trip out the motor. Well, I tried retracting while on batteries only the next trip, and, same old thing.

I'm convinced after several camping trips, that there is water getting into the motor and shorting it out if I'm camping in the rain. The issue doesn't seem to occur when the camping trip is dry.

Anyone have this problem.....and.....managed a solution?

Look at the fabric where it attaches to the RV. Is it feeding from the top or bottom of the roller? The fabric should be on the top of the roller when retracting. Sounds like you might be rolling it up the wrong way. I experienced the same issues. It was operator error. If it rolls up the wrong way the tension causes it to stall. Took me over 30 minutes to get it rolled up the wrong way. No problems since the incident. This video explains it.

At least that's my guess.

Whether you are using it on shore power or battery should make no difference. The motor requires the same amount of power on both sources. Can't believe a manufacturer would even make that kind of comment.
