Battery keeps running down

Just picked up mercedes sprinter diesel in july. have only taken day trips so far. planning a 2 week trip in October. I drove the unit on Friday and today, Sunday, the battery is dead and it won't start. I have taken it to 2 different service places. We think the front radio is wired incorrectly and drains the battery. HELP, we don't know what to do and we can't trust that we won't get stranded somewhere. Has any one else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Have you checked to make sure the battery is being charged while driving?

A great tool for checking for current drains and charging currents is a clamp-on ammeter. Sears sells a good one at a reasonable price. Make sure you get one that measures both AC and DC currents.

As long as I use it every day the battery stays charged. Something is draining it. The only solution that the service places has suggested is that we go under the steering wheel and use the battery disconnect. That is a solution but there has to be someway to prevent the battery from going dead in 2 days other than the disconnect button.

Seems to me that you have to determine that the battery is getting fully charged while driving. Measuring the current into the battery and the battery voltage with the engine running will help.

Then finding out if there is a current drain from the battery when the engine is not running.

Then, if there is a current drain, determine what is causing the drain.

If there is no appreciable drain, the battery may be bad.

You may want someone who knows something about electricity to help you.

Go to most any auto parts store & they will test your battery & charging system free, that will eliminate that portion. I would suspect a bad/weak battery as the radio would/should take longer than 2 days to completely drain a strong battery.
