Black tank dual waste valves

Last year we bought our first motorhome; 2017 siesta 24SS. There are two waste valves. One located on the passenger side and the other on the drivers side. What is the purpose of the dual valves? Do I open them on a specific order?

Thanks!!!

So I take it that your blackwater tank is on the passenger side of the rig?
The valve on that side should always be closed right up until you're ready to dump that tank.
(Treat the one of the driver's side just like you would any "Normal" valve.)
The reason? You don't want that cross-tube filling up with... stuff; and hardening in place...
Cleaning it out is a nightmare!

Our Chateau is set up the same way. I get my exercise running back & forth when flushing. If that "cross drain pipe" ever clogs, I'll release a pack of mutant gerbils into the pipe...

The black tank waste valve on the passenger side is connected to the black tank and from there it goes under your motor home to the black tank dump valve in the wet bay. The purpose of that valve on the passenger side is to block off the black tank waste from sitting inside that line under your motor home while driving. You could hit or damage that black tank water line while driving and then you would be leaking the fluid out onto the highway which is a big no no. Only open the passenger side valve when you are ready to dump the tank. Think of it as a safety device.

While certainly true, I think that’s the “sanitized explanation”. Bob is correct…”solids” tend to settle to the lowest point. If that happens to be a narrow, confined pipe they can become a blockage. It would be….unpleasant….to fix such a clog.
