You can buy those round convex mirrors at auto parts stores with the flat, sticky back. Place them at the top, most outer corner of your outside mirrors. I've put them on everything I've ever driven as standard equipment. When my kids first started driving, I put them on their 1st cars. They still install them on every vehicle they've ever had. Get the bigger ones (3 inches) for the RV.

Do you put them on the flat mirrors or the convex?

Hi lachmanl, If you already have convex mirrors they can be adjusted to see your blind spot. If they won’t adjust enough I would do what The Gritz Carlton said and stick them on the useless convex mirror.

I put them on the flat mirror...you get full contact from the "sticky" back. You will quickly learn to scan all three options every time you look over. Find cars in the convex, then zero on them with the bigger mirrors. It also helps to heat the sticky back up a little just before sticking them on.

Convex mirrors and cameras...
But they still can't replace the early application of your turn-signals, and a really effective prayer!

It's more a situational awareness thing for me. I always keep my eyes on what's behind or beside me while moving along in the event I need to make a quick counter move to avoid something in front of me. When the kids were young and while riding along with them, I would occasionally ask them "what kind of car is directly behind you or on your left side?" It was very effective. If we were sitting in a doctor's office or somewhere similar, I would tell them, "close your eyes and tell me what's in the picture over the receptionist's window". It is amazing what a difference this has made in their awareness of what's around them their entire lives. Situational Awareness is the most important thing you should have today...especially today!!

X2 the comments by Gritz Carlton. You need to constantly be checking that right mirror and you will rarely be surprised by cars there. The stock convex mirror there should show you the entire blind spot, if you have that second mirror.

Another thing, when you are on a four lane or more highway, remember you don't have the agility of a passenger vehicle. Allow a few more minutes to get to your destination, and try to stay more in the slower lane(s). When you are in the slow lane, you rarely have to worry about the right blind spot.

You can't beat early application of turn signals, but you have to hope the ones following you sees them. It seems like a lot of people just either don't look, or just don't care!

My 2017 Honda Ridgeline has sensors for the blindspots that trigger a light on the inside of the mirrors. I'm wondering if there's an aftermarket product to do that.

Think when I was going through drivers ed (like when they only had BW tvs) our teacher said to turn on the signal for a couple seconds, then look before your make your move. About every 6 months I get reminded to look before I moved. Honk.

Also constantly scanning instrument gauges. Got in this habit from flying my little Cessna.

Yeah, I used to be on two wheels. Most times after a long ride, my neck was hurting from scanning gauges, mirrors, what's in front, back and sides. Never did like riding in the rain for obvious reasons.

Cool. You sound like a guy I could enjoy having a beer with. I don’t fly anymore (and am naught but a sport pilot anyway) but piloting airplanes, motorcycles and motor homes have made me a student of SA. And of checklists and meticulous maintenance!

Look at having side mounted cameras on you front fenders. When you activate your turn signal, the camera on the side where you intend to move into activates and gives you a video of everything in the lane before you move into it.

Most of the Thor's already have that in the mirrors.
