Kay,

Nice plans, don't miss the July 4th parade!

Be on the lookout for a Vegas from NC...might have to make a run West next July.

Doc !
We will be at Ouray RV Park & Cabins ... have stayed there previously.
Ouray, as well, has a great 4th of July celebration.
Know we will visit Telluride, but, not sure it will be on the 4th since we are with family.
Watch for us and our Axis from Kansas with the Pumas on the rear !
KC's Big Box will be there in site 60 !

Would be great to see you !

additional note...as I am sure you are aware...make rv reservations early...
as all those places book early in the year...unless you are going to do dispersed camping.

Kay,

1800+ miles one way, I've got some planning to do. Any idea how far is Ouray from Telluride? THeir website has the RV site looking real nice.

Doc going by highway Telluride is around 50 miles from Ouray, If you would go over Black Bear Jeep Road only and not for the faint of heart it is less than twenty miles

If someone gets an Axis/Vegas through there we definitely won't have to worry about anyplace we might want to boondock.

From the early 60's as a kid I remember a real wild switchback gravel road (uncle had an old WW2 Jeep),it just wide enough for 1 vehicle at a time with a view and a half off to the side of the mountain. If that was the Black Bear Jeep Road...I'll pass on taking it again.

Doc ..
We agree with those who offered travel info from Ouray to Telluride.
Google maps sez 50 mi...1 hr 5 min..without delays !!
The hiway trip is a nice drive and not challenging.
The 'over the top' road...Ron has ridden on his dual sport motorcycle a couple times...sez it is not for the faint of heart, but beautiful. I have not made that trip with him, as usually, those off road jaunts are made by the men..3-4 of our fellow m/c enthusiasts. The girls drive to Telluride and meet them there for dinner & a local brew.

In addition...realizing you are still in the planning stages...it is much easier to travel to Ouray area from Pueblo/Salida/Gunnison/Ridgeway than coming up from the south on the million dollar hiway from Durango. We were last through there, using that route, during construction three years ago...it was a little hairy !! We were in our 25' Dorado B+.(our Colorado residents can offer utd info on this situation)
In addition, there is the 'old' road from Silverton to Ouray, which we have done on the offroad m/c .. only ok for jeep/4wheelers/off road motorcycles. This one I have done with Ron...breathtaking views !
By the way...Salida & Buena Vista are fun/interesting towns to visit.
OMG .. there are too many great towns to visit and take in the culture and sites !!

We want to get out there before it gets too cold this year ! Love it.

Happy day ! Kay

Ahh the Million dollar Highway, in my youth Ill spent many days seeing how quick we could make it up to the the top of the pass. It was a lot narrower then and not as much traffic. The black Bear trip was all ways done when mom and Dad had company. Some would get out of the Jeep and walk part of the way down,

Black Bear Jeep Road? Hey, that's not the road that Robin William's character took his motorhome over in the movie "RV" is it?

Wow! Great video. My wife and I parked our Axis at the mine at the bottom of the hill last week and walked the three miles up to the base of the falls and back. That is the two lane part of the drive and it is pretty rough. Nothing like the Black Bear Pass part. I see now why it is one way down. Thanks for sharing,

Hey ! actually, we discovered The Tail of The Dragon this summer..the location..and campground references...a little too late to include in the plans on that trip...but, definately will do that in the future !!
It seems, if there is a motorcycle friendly hiway or dirt road available he finds it !! In our younger days, we rode all over the Sandias and the trails on the foothills to the mtns and the west mesa.
Back then it was on his circa 1955 BSA ! He traded that for a Norton Scrambler which was very dirt friendly !!
Many good memories !
