coming from the Atlanta area, I know it well, but, yes, you'll have quite a drive in to see your Daughter in Buckhead - but that's o.k. if that is comfortable for you...
here's some decent/good/*fine options, depending on where you want to be:
A)*Stone Mountain Park Campground, of course...
B)Stone Mountain HEIGHTS RV Park, near Stone Mountain
C)Ghost Hill Campground, near Stone Mountain
D)Jones RV Park, I85 NE near Norcross
E)*Sweet Water Creek State Park campground, I20 southwest
F)Sweet Water Creek RV Preserve, I20 northwest, old Alabama Rd
G)Atlanta West Campground, I20 northwest, old Alabama Rd
H)Atlanta Marietta RV Resort, I75 northwest, Cobb Parkway
I)*Alatoona Landing Campground, I75 northwest, old Alatoona Rd
J)*McKinney Campground(COE), I75 northwest, Glade Rd
K)Holiday Harbor Campground, I75 northwest, Groovers Landing rd
L)Twin Lakes RV Park, US19/400 North, Lake Rd
M)*Bald Ridge Creek Campground(COE),us19/400 north
these are just a few, if you GOOGLE MAP with the term 'campground' in the area you wish to 'camp', you'll find plenty of options....zoom in or out and you'll see even more : )
been there, done that! Especially at McKinney Campground ... a little ways 'away', but everything is just about right on the water, especially if you can get site #110, on the peninsula, all by yourself!
