Powell was just about empty when we drove through this spring on our way to spring training baseball in AZ. It was really sad to see.

Mirror Lake Hwy is going to be our next trip. Time to camp at 10,000' and skip the desert for a little bit.
Agree..hwy 12 is a great experience...we have been to Moab twice and hope to get back there with snow on the ground ! Awesome photo shoot !

We were at Lake Powell the week after Memorial Day...it was packed !! We were going to get out on the water and explore some of the slot canyons..opted out and went on to Grand Canyon (had been years since we were at the South rim)..revisited Petrified Forest and Painted Desert..then on the Albuq. to visit family.

Smells like Conifer Forest

Immigrant Springs State Park, Oregon just off I-84 east of Pendleton. Beautiful heavily wooded sites (but try to get one away from I-84)

Are you sure that camping spot isn't somewhere south of the Antarctic Circle? Beautiful.

I've never understood the concept of going camping to get away from it all, just to park in a campsite 10 yards away from another camper. Not exactly getting away from it all.

Outside Breckenridge, CO.

Wow, that's beautiful - we feel the same way. Just got back a few weeks ago from camping in a dispersed site near Crested Butte. Can't wait until our next adventure!

OKAY, when searching for RV sites, is there a specific wording used to find quiet isolated sites like these?

We have found some small sites with 20 or 30 hook-ups, but nothing like the ones above!

I got lucky last week. Washington state parks website shows a picture of most sites. (only the pad area) they also give some dimension. I think if you can google map them would be best.

They are usually found at National, State and county or municipal parks. If you can get past not having electric, the National Parks are the best. If it is too hot, we usually opt for state or county parks with electric. Having to string wire, water and sewer lines is expensive and private parks are trying to maximize threir profits.

Just got back from our first road trip. Took a five day drive along Highway 101 from Fort Bragg to Astoria OR. Great trip. This is our campsite in Crescent City. Next time we would love to find more remote sites like the WY site posted above or Utah's Bryce Canyon

These are not developed sites that I go to. They are what the Forest Service calls "dispersed" camping sites. You have to be willing to get off the beaten path. I use google earth to find most of the areas I camp in.

HI ! Regarding Bryce Canyon, Utah...it is not remote and one of the most popular National Parks in the country. It is well-worth the trip and is jaw-dropping at every turn. The campground is very large at Bryce.
You will find, along the way, those remote spots at State Parks, etc.

I am sure you will receive alot of feedback from other forum members!

Enjoy !

Amre,

Thanks, for the info and name to look under: "dispersed" camping sites.
