'Casting" to a TV
Trying to view cell data streaming on dumb TV and running into the Copy Right issue. Just straight screen mirroring with a phone to TV HDMI adapter does not work for copy written content. Prime, Netflix etc is such content. Looking to hook up a device between the cell phone and TV that will allow copy written materials to pass. Assuming there is such a device.
If parked at the lake and have no WiFi but do have Cell Data, will a ChromeCast device allow Prime, Netflix etc to be seen on the Motorhome dumb TV?
If we set a cell phone as a hot spot, will a Roku device work for Prime, Netflix etc? Is Chromecast, Roku and Fire TV device really the same thing? If there is another way to do this, please let me know.

We use a
type c usb(our phone)
To
HDMI (axxera dumb tv)
12ft long cable
We watch exclusively downloaded Netflix, Amazon and YouTube premium shows stored on a dedicated LG v20 phone.
No problems.
The control device is the phone, not the tv.
Lgcast android app works for home LG TVs.
Casting tends to lag sometimes and will make you mad.
Cellphone hotspot easily runs roku at my shop and in the RV. As low as 620k let's us watch roku stuff.
roku, Google, firestick, apple
Are
Pepsi
Coke
Royal Crown
Wal-Mart brand
Safeway signature
Just branding(except for Apple. That might be religion).
They all use WiFi/hotspots the same way.

Chromecast is nothing like the others - it is a redirection/controlled device - worthless without the casting phone. The others are stand-alone streaming devices.

My chrome cast hasn't been used in a while but I don't think my phone was near it.
It came with the RV.

I was hoping someone would offer to drop by and set everything up for me.
Oh well, guess I need to go read some and find our more for myself.
This complicated to jump into.
I was an early MAC computer user and there was a software rental store in Houston, Texas. For a few dollars one could rent entire software packages and take them home for a few days. I'm sure some of the software was copied/pirated as there was zero security on almost all of the software. Times have changed.

I would look into getting a cable setup mentioned above, that way you only have one device connected to the internet. Chromecast only works if both the phone and TV are connected to the same WIFI.

I had read that about Chromecast and it confused me. Why would you need 2 devices if both devices can connect to the internet? We will most likely not mess with Chromecast. It seems to be happiest when linked to Googles home control items.
The set up you/duckface suggest will be our next try. Thank you.

$12 is the cable on Amazon.
Buy one for each tv(if you use each tv) to make life easy.
Try downloading a movie today.
I saw no value in my free chrome cast.

I was using a Roku with my phone as a hotspot and it worked fine. Now I have a dedicated hotspot router and it is as simple and easy as it gets to use (as long as there is cell signal available).

We are reading and asking question trying to learn the options.
We actually just bought a Roku to use our phone hotspot.
This will have to be a stop gap until we get a better plan, but I appreciate you mentioning it.
