Catalytic Converter Theft

We keep our 2018 Windsport at a lot behind the owners house that has about 75 other RVs about a mile from our home. We've kept our RVs there for about 12 years without issue. I went over to get the RV and when I started it up it sounded like a tank. I looked underneath to find the catalytic converter had been cut off and stolen. Wonderful. I don't know if others were targeted there yet. I did file a police report. The lot owner didn't have cameras (like that would have stopped anyone) and said nothing had happened like this before there. Thieves probably got $100 for it and I'll have to pay about $2000 to repair it.
Besides bellyaching about this, are there others who have had anything similar happen with their cat getting stolen? What kind of precautions should I take? I saw some cat protectors on youtube but don't know if they would fit on the F53 chassis. I don't want this to happen again especially as we store it over the winter.

At least you can recoup some of the loss through your insurance.
The only thing you can do to prevent recurring of this; would be to find a more secure lot in a much better neighborhood.

Besides what Bob mentioned..... some type of perimeter alarm system that would either alert you or set off an audible alarm if someone starts snooping around or under your coach.

Perhaps something like this....

Yes, we recently had another report of a storage lot that had several catalytic converters stolen from RVs. Here's one thread from less than a year ago:

Cat Theft

A battery powered saw makes it a quick theft unfortunately. I remember a few years ago I was driving a big Uhaul truck on a Ford chassis with the V-10. Looking underneath one evening I noticed that the company had welded a rebar cage around the cat converter. Rebar would take a long time to cut through unlike exhaust pipe.

Not the motorhome, but my wife's Honda Pilot. Because I have a couple of older classic cars the Pilot lived on the street. Apparently, the thieves look for vehicles that sit high off the ground for easy access.

I had to find a new location to keep one of the classics and the Pilot moved indoor.

Another good reason for having a secure location to store your MH.

I'd sure check one of these before I'd pay $2,000

If this is legal in your state and you decide to pay $2,000 anyway... No mercy from me.

If I've saved you $1,700 then buy me a steak the next time you're at the grand canyon.

I'd be tempted to park one of the targeted vehicles on the street...

... And be ready to shoot out all four tires when the punks crawl under it!
