Are Class "C" MH required to have a third stop light?

1. Are Class "C" MH required to have a third stop light?
2. Or, does your MH have a "third stop light"?
My new, 3019 Thor Chateau, has one but it comes on with the running lights.

Before I complain to Thor I would like to know!

Thanks in advance

Yes, my class A has one that comes on with the tail lights and gets much brighter when the brake are applied. <https://one.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/standards/conspicuity/TBMpstr.html>

I think its up to the RV manufacture if they what a "CHMSL" (AKA - 3rd brake light) when its over a certain Gross Vehicle weight.

I dont have one on my 2017 Axis but I put a cheapo LED Receiver hitch light from Harbor Freight.

I figured I would eventally install a high up brake light but I kinda like the low mount in the hitch (for now).

For one it was easy, Two since most RV's are taller than the cars and SUV's the Receiver hitch is not too low. Three my Mtn bike might block any brake light that is higher.

So I leave my slide in LED light hooked up all the then then when Im hauling my bikes I have a slide in receiver mount bike rack ....then I take two zip ties and install this hitch light below it so its still operational and I think it looks petty darn good. I dont have any pictures.

Our Class C does not have a third brake light, just small led clearance lights.

The original idea of the third light was to have a stop light at eye level when viewed from a following passenger car. Since motor homes tail lights are already normally at eye level there is no need for the extra light. Manufacturers decision on rather to add or not.

I agree... The height of the "normal" lights should fulfill any legal requirement.
