cold dead battries

Texas RV owner … The last 2 weeks have been HELL , if it snowed and iced and no water and no heat if it did these things in hell etc….. Haven't been able to go anywhere covid, no place to go, no openings you all get it .. anyway went to the RV to run it foe and hour or so … WAWAWA ..batteries dead. I know 8 0r 9 days of below freezing weather did it, but they were almost new batteries … QUESTION … I have a 1thing10 plug just out side the coach. could I plug in permanently so this doesn't happen again … and would constant plug in hurt anything

Cold is not necessarily bad for batteries, unless they are discharged then they can freeze and crack. My MH is sitting in a storage yard where it has gotten down to 10F recently. I do keep a small solar panel hooked up, mounted vertical to keep the snow off and facing south.

Yes I would keep it plugged in to keep the batteries charged up.

Yes, you could keep it plugged into a 110 outlet. It would let you keep your batteries up but don't forget to check the water levels on a regular basis.

Keeping your RV plugged in to keep batteries charged won't hurt anything IF your converter is working as it's supposed to and goes into float mode when the batteries are fully charged.

There should no problem keeping it plugged in to a 110 outlet. Just remember to check the water level in each battery cell if they are flooded lead acid batteries. I installed a dual battery flow-rite battery hydration system to make it easy and quick to top off my two coach fla batteries.

To keep the house batteries charged when plugged in at your house keep the use/store switch in use.

Something else to check.
Some RV's don't charge the chassis battery when on 120.
I have a battery maintainer on our chassis battery.

My class C doesn't maintain the chassis battery when plugged in as designed by Thor.

But the 12V socket on the dash is always live to the chassis battery. So I plug a 0.75 amp maintainer in under the dinette with the output plugged into the dash.

Pete,
That's a "sneaky-good" way of dealing with that issue!

I thought so. Economical and I can use it with alligator clamps on other batteries including the coach if I wanted to.
