Did your auto insurance cover any of the cost to replace the windshield?

In my DP I got a crack in my windshield a few years ago. I talked to Safelite who handle windshield for my insurance company and if on the interior of the crack you can not feel it (rumb your finger on it) than the laminate is holding and you should be able to travel home. Our crack was six inches and we drove from the Texas pan handle to California without problem. We put tape on it just to make sure.

We had severe glass damage .. but ours was due to road debris ...
our Safelite coverage handled it .
I DO THINK..about a year ago there was a thread regarding glass on the Axis cracking...you might do a search...contact Thor.

Vkb, I think that was on 2014 & 2015 VEGAS/AXIS with the " higher" windshield on the front. I believe THOR lowered the front cap on 2016 and later to stop the pressure cracks

2014 and 2015 had stress crack problems because of the size of the windshield and the asymmetrical nature of the vertical and horizontal curves built into the glass. The windshield had to be installed pretty much perfectly or as the body flexed when on the road, the flexing would apply asymmetrical stresses on the glass. Thor decreased the vertical size of the windshield beginning in the 2016 model year because of the stress crack problem in the 2014 & 2015 models.
I was going to my dealer's for an oil change while my 2015 Vegas was still under warranty. I parked under the service canopy and went in to have the work order written up. The service rep came out to check over my Vegas and when he got to the front he said, "Do you know your windshield is cracked?" The crack was L-shaped. it began at the A-pillar on the driver's side and went horizontally for about 8" and then turned down and proceeded for another foot. The horizontal crack was right at eye level when seated in the driver's seat. It was not cracked when I was driving over to the dealer's and it apparently cracked while parked under the service canopy.
Dealer sent pictures to Thor. They verified it was a stress crack and Thor replaced it under warranty. If you are out of warranty, the $5K mentioned in the previous post is pretty accurate. Here in FL we can make an insurance claim and there is no comprehensive deductible for glass. That is not true of all states so you need to check with your insurance company about glass deductibles.

I'm pretty sure the manufacturer of this windshield has to conduct a bird strike test on this. Wonder what the results are for speed test as well as flex.
Just curious.

Guardian makes many RV windshields including the Axis/Vegas versions.

In 2007 I was driving westbound on I-40, going thru Memphis, TN when a semi kicked up some road debris and put a 2 inch crack in the drivers side windshield of my 1995 Allegro Bus. We were headed to Arizona for the winter, with several stops along the way. My wife got on the cellphone and filed a claim with our insurance company. They sourced a replacement windshield directly from Tiffin and had it shipped to Safelitte in Tucson. Two days after we arrived a crew showed up at our campground, installed the glass in about 2 hours and were on their way. No cost to us.
Two years later, again on I-40, but this time in Little Rock and eastbound in the Tiffin Allegro Bay I had just purchased in Las Vegas two days before, the passengers side windshield separated from the A pillar at the top. Sounded like I had a jet engine in the seat beside me. I pulled off the Hiway at the next exit and doubled back into Little Rock. Good Sams found a local glass dealer who got me into their repair bay immediately and resealed the windshield. They had me sit still for 6 hours after the glue job and told me to stay off the road until the next morning. Next day I took off again, drove the rest of the way home to Maine and never had another problem. Total cost $125.00.
I stay away from I-40 now.

In the lower center of your windshield is an etched information spot..take a photo of it with your phone... it shows mfg and the necessary info to make a proper claim.

Minor point of correction, Ed and MO Mike. The early 2016 Vegas and Axis also had the taller windshield. Ours was one of those, and our windshield cracked and was replaced under warranty. Haven't heard of anyone having a stress crack on the shorter windshield.
