Cruise America RVs a Good Deal?

I am looking for a small class C, mostly for exploring places within the state of Colorado. Cruise America has a Thor 19-G with 136K miles for just under $30K. I've never bought a motor home, and I know this is a lot of miles, but we cannot afford a new one. Anyone had any experience purchasing a used, high-mileage unit from Cruise America? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Maybe this isn't even the proper forum. Just got my user ID today.

Keeping in mind that these RVs have spent their lives being rented out: That seems like an awful lot of miles...
Keep it in your hip pocket, and keep looking... Good luck!

...and welcome to the forum too!

WELCOME to Our Campfire...Pull Up A Stump and sit a spell...
The rental fleets use a bare bones/ bottom of the barrel spec'd Rv...
But they could be well maintained ..or not..

This question has been asked before and the answers trend to:
Good basic RVs - usually no awnings or other "niceties" that renters tend to tear up
The Ford V10 engine/transmission combos are designed to go at least 200,000 miles so 100,000 + miles is not the negative some may feel it is.
CA does a good refurbishment before selling their units.

I haven't seen any rants/complaints from someone who took the plunge but I have seen comments from people who felt it was the right deal for them.

I think that the 19-Gs are on a 350 chassis, and have the V-8 in them...

Correct in this case - 350 with a V-8. Still built for 200K + miles?
Thanks everyone for your feedback. Deeply appreciated!

Correct. Same power plant that was in my 2 Expeditions. The first (2001) got totaled by a dump truck with 150K miles and was going strong. The second (2011) was part of the deal for the Jeep and it had 175K and was still going strong.

I just replied to a similar post about this. I rented a 19G in 2012 because I was interested in one. The things that turned me off were the wet bathroom and the loft only for 2 people to sleep in. I bought a Thor CA Majestic 23A and have been mostly happy ever since.

That's definitely one of the advantages. We live in a townhouse with a small parking space, so a 23-footer is just a bit too big. There are lots of considerations but that's a big one. Class Bs are too small for what we want, most class Cs too large for our limited space - this model is just right, size-wise. If I can get over the high miles, everything else is just what we're looking for.

We own a 2015 23A from Cruise America and are happy with it. I look at it this way, it is short on some items, but they are not a deal breaker for ME. As a bonus, we also rent ours out which offsets the finance and storage fees. The renters can't break what's not there (awning, oven, roof ladder). Neither can my grandkids. We have added a tv and an observation camera though. This is our second year and it has 115xxx miles on a Triton V8 and is still strong.
Good luck.

Don't turn our back on RV Trader to use in comparisons. You may have to travel some to get a good deal but it's just another wrench in your decision tool box.

You also need to operate all systems including the grey/black tanks to be sure everything is in working order. Remember these were rentals and some people may not have taken as good a care as someone who owns it. There are some great deals out there on rental units.

Good luck.

Second checking the tanks operations. We bought a 2018 Ace 27.2 that spent a season as a rental. First time we took it out toilet was plugged. It was not our first Rv so we are fairly sure renters never flushed the tanks.

You didn't say how old it is?

Do you know the NADA book value relative to the $30k asking price.

In my view if you pay $30k you can afford a very nice one even though it is not new.

I would think if lived in, or plan to explore Colorado, I would get a coach that has transmission with good life left.

So it's a cute well used possibly well maintained high mileage rental with no amenities and a historically proven good engine, so definitely maybe!!!
From reading here it sounds about 50/50, not much help.

I bought a used 2012 Thor 24’ Freedom Elite 4 years ago with 88,000 miles on it I was the 3rd owner. 1st was cruise America rental, 2nd Florida couple for a year. I have never driven an RV but knew i wanted to camp with my horse AND I wanted my own bathroom. I paid $28000. The only problems I have had are learning How things work. The engine is great, towing my horse is easy and love camping out. Its E-350 series, not alot of fancy stuff but all appliances work , air, heaters and has great speakers! Good luck.
Some one maintained the unit.
