Cummins Generator 5500 Usages

Ok... Here is a dumb question for a new Rv'er going on their first trip. We will be take our 2018 Thor Windsport 35M to a dry camp and was wondering if the generator can be used at least 10 hrs a day. The Generator is Gas. How much gas would it use?

About 1 gal/hr or less.

i believe the pickup is at about 1/4 of a tank so the generator wont run the gas dry and leave you stranded. so that should be accounted for.

i hate the fact the generator runs off of the main gas tank. totally throws off gas and MPG tracking. i'll probably eventually add a second tank just for the generator.

Ply Hrd...not to take the thread down a dirt road but have you considered a portable, inverter generator for use during long, extended dry camping? I use either my Champion 3100 or one or two (in parallel) of my Honda 2000's. Both setups deliver 30A power, will run one A/C plus keep fridge and batteries up. They will run for many hours on less than a gallon. I carry them with a few gas jugs on a rear hitch carrier. We do this at the racetrack over a 10 day period. Never used over 15 gallons the entire venture. I'm not "afraid" to use the generator but why run 6000W genset when you only need a fraction of it? If it gets hot during the heat of the day, I will use onboard system for both A/C's but not for long. Just my opinion and practice.

We do this as well; run a Honda 2000 for "maintenance" loads, run the Cummins for Air Conditioning.

I even do it for A/C. The Hondas in parallel with the 5 gallon B.E.R.G. extended run fuel tank system will blow cold air all night on 1.5 gallons. Never have to get up in middle of night to add gas. Interestingly, nearly all of the MH's at the races do similar...made me feel better to see even the "big bus DP's" doing the same. (not the driver's of the race but the fans in the grass fields)
